Obiettivo The DEBUT project will introduce the MpCCI coupling technology into the engineering environment of TRW by generating a solver for fluid-structure interaction problems. This solver will be build from three already established tools:- the fluid solver CFX (provided by AEA),- the mechanic solver MARC (provided by MSC) and- the code coupling interface MpCCI (provided by Pallas). The industrial company TRW, manufacturer of gas generators for airbag systems and experienced user of CFX and MARC, will use this coupled solver for there everyday engineering problems. They will demonstrate the benefits of using the coupling technology of MpCCI to the European engineering community by solving one of their typical problems: a coupled simulation of a shot of an airbag system gas generator taking into account the dynamic fluid-structure interaction. Objectives:The DEBUT consortium of four industrial companies (Pallas, AEA, MSC, TRW) follows several objectives in different directions:- improve efficiency of product design by using MpCCI instead of file transfer and coupling by hand,- improve quality of product design by use of dynamic coupling algorithms possible with MpCCI,- reduce time and costs of design of new products,- thereby increase competitiveness of TRW in their specific business areas,- demonstrate the potential of MpCCI to the european simulation community and thereby bring MpCCI to the market,- demonstrate the benefits of coupling commercial codes to the suppliers and users of numerical simulation software.Work description:The objectives of the DEBUT project will be achieved in collaboration of four industrial partners. First the applications and the specific needs for coupled computations of TRW have to be analysed. This will result in a concept for coupling CFX and MARC. All four partners have to agree on this concept. Based on this concept the Application Interfaces between MpCCI and CFX respectively MARC has to be written and build into the codes. This will create the coupled solver, which has to undergo several tests before being installed into the engineering environment of TRW. Slight modifications of the CFX code are necessary due to the dynamic coupling. TRW, manufacturer of gas generators for airbag systems, will use this coupled simulation tool to solve real business cases from their actual engineering problems. This will demonstrate the benefits of using coupling technology in engineering and development of new products. The technical work of DEBUT will be accompanied by dissemination actions from all partners. Due to the structure of the project consortium and the wide distribution of the simulation tools CFX and MARC nearly the complete European simulation community will be reached by this actions.Milestones:The DEBUT project is divided in three phases which all will be followed by a milestone:M1 (6M): Concept of coupling and the corresponding Application Interfaces between CFX/MARC and MpCCI.M2 (12M): Create the coupled solver and present results of the test cases.M3 (18M): The final phase will show the results of the business cases of TRW.Dissemination actions will be carried out during the second and third phase.
