Objectif In the European mechanical engineering industry the product quality loses continuously in meaning as a competition instrument. In order to differentiate nevertheless from the international competition, customer-fair service products must be offered more and more apart from the high quality and the efficiency of the machines. Therefore especially small and medium-size machine dealers are required to offer wide service performance apart from the pure sales of machines, to set up long-term business relations, to guarantee the permanent availability of the necessary product knowledge and to offer services in the proximity of the customer (spatial, temporal and linguistic). In order to be able to offer these requests in line to the market, the objective of this project is the design and implementation of a trans-regional service network which shall enable the change from pure trading companies to trading and service companies by using innovative information and telecommunication technologies. In the Distributed Services project, a European-wide service network is to be structured for four machine trading companies from Sweden, Belgium, Portugal and the Netherlands under participation of a mechanical engineering company and a consulting and system house. This network shall enable the change from pure trading companies to trading and service companies. The installation of telecommunications-based services, like tele-support, video-support and hotline-support is the centre of attention. These services will be based on scientific innovations, particularly within the telecommunication sector, which are developed further on in the context of this project for the described industry. The supply of service performance is to be furnished as far as possible, i.e. in the 1st and 2nd -level-support locally by the trading companies, while complex service cases are solved by a support team in the factory of the mechanical engineering company.
