Obiettivo
DOMINICO's main goal is to demonstrate the possibilities and advantages of already existing leading edge methods and technologies for a network of smaller museums and exhibition designers. The trial will be carried out in conjunction with a series of exhibitions in the concerned museums, that is being planned together with a major cultural event and that will be financed from separate sources. The subject of these exhibitions as well as of the trial will be the defence against the Turkish invasion in Europe.
Objectives:
DOMINICO will demonstrate the possibilities and the advantages of already existing leading edge methods and technologies for a network of smaller museums and exhibition designers. The trial will be carried out in conjunction with a series of exhibitions in the partner museums, that is being planned together with a major cultural event and that will be financed from separate sources. DOMINICO will set a strong focus on the usability and the fitting into existing work flows within smaller cultural institutions and will support several workflow procedures. A support of the learning process not only on the end users side but also on the technology providers will be a major result of DOMINICO. The knowledge about the usability of the utilized information, search, retrieval and presentation system and its applicability for the workflow of smaller cultural institutions and exhibition designers will be a guideline for future developments.
Work description:
It is intended to present every available information concerning one theme. Dominico dell' Allio played a predominant role during the defence against the Turkish invasion. The Italian master builders and here especially DOMINICO dell' Allio were not just engaged in the technical construction of fortresses but also in artistic creations during the 16th century. DOMINICO will present dell' Allio's activities as well as to exhibit the still existing monuments and documentation about them. The project work will be carried out in two phases. During the first phase an analysis and adoption of an existing cultural information system (archival and documentation software, OPAC and HTML export technology) and its integration into the local systems used at the partner's side will be carried out. During the second phase of DOMINICO the existing and adapted information system will be used to digitise the needed information, to make it available for Internet presentations, for touring exhibitions and for the presentation of the institutions.
Milestones:
(I) Overall specification and adaption - technical description of the system architecture, user requirements. Usability test and evaluation of the system.
(II) Exhibition database - existing (background) software will be adapted and harmonized. Results will be published and participants may market their data.
(III) DOMINICO virtual exhibition 1.0 - will be the final project result. The product will be stable and optimised in terms of performance.
