MolCoNet - A thematic network on molecular computing

Obiettivo

This working group addresses bio-molecular computing, e.g. the use of bio-sequences (e.g. DNA strands or proteins) to store and manipulate information. Bio-molecular computing is a new and rapidly evolving research area that brings together computer scientists and biologists and that requires both theoretical and experimental work. Cooperation and information exchange between different research groups is essential in order to compare the different proposals and methods and, ultimately, to exploit the enormous potential of DNA or other molecules as a computational substrate. The working group will establish systematic contacts and exchanges among research groups with complementary expertise, in particular groups developing theoretical models of bio-molecular computing and groups pursuing experiments.

OBJECTIVES
Molecular Computing is a novel and exciting development at the interface of computer science, molecular biology, chemistry and physics. Its main advantage is that it is an energy-efficient, massively parallel process. This working group focuses on computing with bio-molecules that have an enormous potential as a computational substrate. The aim is to stimulate research on biological computing and to coordinate the scientific activity of some of the major research groups active on this subject in Europe. The working group will foster joint work and the exchange of results and knowledge among the involved research groups and it will specifically exploit the special competencies of each one of the partners.

DESCRIPTION OF WORK
The working group will establish systematic contacts and exchanges among researchers with complementary competencies, in particular groups developing theory models of biological computing and groups pursuing experiments. The activities will include a "kick-off" meeting, yearly plenary meetings on molecular computing, mutual visits from one group to another, working parties on specific topics, web pages on biological computing, including annotated bibliography, news, as well as the publication of papers in international journals and conferences.

Campo scientifico (EuroSciVoc)

Cfr.: Il Vocabolario Scientifico Europeo.

Programma(i)

Argomento(i)

Invito a presentare proposte
