Obiettivo
IST-TV aims to disseminate the results of the IST Programme to the general public in 31 European countries. This will be done through a) the identification of the IST key results; b) the development of a series of original high-quality audiovisual productions based on the findings of the IST Programme; c) the exploitation of the existing technological new media potential by setting-up an integrated multi -access new media platform acting as the principal access and service point for the project's target audience; d) the performance of an intensive dissemination and communication campaign towards the media of 31 European countries; e) the broadcasting of project's audiovisuals on several TV channels Europe-wide. The project expects to communicate in a robust and coherent way the key results of the IST Programme to all the European media communities and to several tens of millions people Europe-wide.
OBJECTIVES
The main objectives of IST-TV are:
a) to fill the existing communication gap between the technical results of the IST Programme and the understanding skills of the general public;
b) to contribute to the development of public awareness on IST issues in 31 European countries;
c) to exploit new media convergence technologies to pilot an innovative audio-visual production and distribution concept for the European research;
d) to accelerate the creation of IST issues in the Newly Accessing countries.
DESCRIPTION OF WORK
The IST-TV workplan is sub-divided into 6 workpackages, covering the following activities:
- to monitor the work of the IST Programme and to retrieve the IST key results, i. e. a series of non-technical key statements reflecting the technical work undertaken by the IST Programme (WP1);
- to conceive and develop a series of 36 original high-quality TV audio-visual TV productions for the general public reflecting the IST key results (WP2 );
- to design, set-up and maintain an integrated new media access and distribution platform, involving all available popular platforms for the fruition of audiovisuals, namely analogue and digital TV (cable and satellite), the web, mobile telephony. At the core of this platform the project will set-up a web-based 3-lingual video portal, which shall be considered the core of all of the IST-TV services, and will contain all project's products and offering a wide range of customised services to media journalists and to the general public. The video portal will act as the main interface between the project and its audience (WP3);
- to carry out a targeted and effective dissemination and communication campaign towards the media of the 31 target countries. Through this campaign IST-TV will invite media journalists all over Europe to access and use the video portal. Special efforts will be made by the project to involve media journalists from the Newly Accessing Countries (WP4) IST-TV will also carry-out a monitoring of its results, mostly through the retrieval audience data and video portal subscriptions and generated traffic (WP5). All activities will be co-ordinated by the project management (WP0).
