The European Information Society Technologies Prize 2002 and 2003

Obiettivo

The objective of the European IST Prize is to promote European innovation and entrepreneurship in IST by providing public recognition to companies that excel in turning technology and research results into products for the market. Euro-CASE proposes, within the framework of the European IST Programme, to continue the organisation of the annual European IST Prize which as been organised in co-operation with the European Commission since 1995. The project comprises administrative and secretariat support, launch tasks (dissemination of information and PR in the 31 countries to which the Prize is open, reception and acknowledgement of receipt of applications), evaluation of applications, selection of 20 Winners and 3 Grand Prize Winners, organisation of various events for Winners and journalists during the annual European IST Event, PR on Winners. Organisations of the Winners exhibition and Awards Ceremony jointly with the European Commission. The foreseen expenditure includes appropriate operation costs and a total of 1,400,000 Euro to be handed out as monetary prizes.

Objectives:
The objective of the European IST Prize is to promote European innovation and entrepreneurship in IST by providing public recognition to companies that excel in turning technology and research results into products for the market. The objective of this project is to organise the European IST Prize in the years 2002 and 2003, taking into account the experience acquired during the last seven years and the objectives of the IST Programme. The Prize will contribute to enhancing the impact of the IST Programme, by promoting excellence in advanced technologies that are crucial to the Information Society, by accelerating their take-up and broadening their fields of application and, therefore, by ensuring and reinforcing the competitiveness of European Industry. The European IST Prize scheme will involve 31 countries (EU and Associated States)

Work description:
The work is carried out by the non-profit organisation Euro-CASE, assisted by its 18 member Academies. The unique composition and status of Euro-CASE allows ensuring an effective, highly professional and impartial evaluation of the applications received. The foreseen expenditure includes appropriate operation costs and a total of 700,000 Euro per annum to be handed out as monetary prizes. The work includes the following activities: Organisation of the annual competitions and promotion of the Prize, evaluation of the applications, Awards Ceremony, Exhibition and PR on Winners

The above includes the management and update of the European IST Prize Web site.

The Winners Exhibition and the Awards Ceremony are organised jointly with the European Commission

Milestones:
Receive an appropriate number of applications from all EU and Associated States through launch and promotion of the Prize competitions in 2002 and 2003 (milestones in May every year).
Ensure that the evaluation panel is balanced with respect to technical expertise, business and financial know-how, and geographical spread (June each year).
Provide a high quality evaluation of applications in order to identify 20 products and companies that are truly the best according to the selection criteria (milestones in September each year)
Ensure that all 20 Winners are present at the annual exhibition with high quality demonstrable products (November each year).
