Accompanying Measure System Dependability

Obiettivo

This project addresses the need for a coherent major initiative in FP6 encompassing a full range of dependability-related activities, e.g. RTD on the various aspects of dependability per se; (reliability, safety, security, survivability, etc.); education and training; and means for encouraging and enabling sector-specific IST RTD projects to use dependability best practice. It is aimed at initiating moves towards the creation of such an Initiative, via roadmapping and constituency and consensus building undertaken in co-operation with groups, working in various dependability-related topic areas, who are already undertaking such activities for their domains. The results will be an overall dependability roadmap that considers dependability in an adequately holistic way, and a detailed roadmap for dependable embedded systems.

DESCRIPTION OF WORK
Workshops will be held with representatives from the research communities respectively working on:
(i) Information Infrastructure Interdependencies and Vulnerabilities,
(ii) Privacy and Identity Management,
(iii) Trust and security in e-business processes, and
(iv) Dependable embedded systems.
Aided by these workshops, and the reports from the various specialised roadmapping communities, our work on an Overall Road Map will aim at covering both technical and socio-technical issues, and a broad range of systems. Material from all the more-focused roadmaps will be consolidated into a single document, so as to identify commonalties, tensions, and contradictions across the different domains (as well as opportunities for synergy), using the taxonomies and classifications of dependability that have been developed by the IFIP Working group on Dependability and Fault Tolerance as our conceptual framework.
Work on the Dependable Embedded Systems roadmap will involve:%l(i) application assessment (analysis of the different application domains),
(ii) technology assessment (study of the available performance and cost predictions of the enabling technologies, namely semiconductors,
communications, dependability, and real-time system and software development),
(iii) analysis of the resulting technology/application matrix to identify which fields particularly merit further work, leading to (iv) establishment of a research agenda for this domain. An investigation will be initiated of how best to encourage the widespread use by industry and governments throughout Europe of "dependability best practice"; and we will explore, and gauge the likely acceptability and effectiveness of, mechanisms for encouraging and enabling RTD programmes across IST to exploit state-of-the-art dependability measures and tools. We will engage a wide variety of stakeholders and communities in our work, and undertake a number of measures aimed at raising public awareness of the issu
es involved, including the holding of a high-level residential international conference, and publication of a detailed report.

Programma(i)

Programmi di finanziamento pluriennali che definiscono le priorità dell’UE in materia di ricerca e innovazione.

Argomento(i)

Invito a presentare proposte

Procedura per invitare i candidati a presentare proposte di progetti, con l’obiettivo di ricevere finanziamenti dall’UE.
