Obiettivo
An accompanying measure is proposed that aims to ensure that future mobile services and systems satisfy security, privacy and identity management requirements. This is seen as indispensable for broad user acceptance and market success. To this end, the project will produce a coherent framework for future research in this area and issue recommendations for European research within FP6. The approach taken is to start from likely developments in mobile systems and applications, and to identify their security and privacy requirements. Building upon this analysis, available technologies (e.g. cryptography, privacy-enhancing technologies, PKI, DRM) will be investigated and mapped onto an application/ technology matrix. Besides open research aspects, the concluding assessment will also identify needs with respect to standardisation and regulation. OBJECTIVES
The broad area of security, privacy and identity management will be a key determinant of the user acceptance and commercial success or failure of new mobile systems and services beyond the third generation. The main objectives of the study are to develop a research framework for European research in this field within FP6, and to form a nucleus of future research projects. The study's subsidiary objectives are a technology roadmap for the area, an identification of the critical areas for research in the field, recommendations for the structure and content of EU-funded research, and an identification of requirements for standardisation, legislation and regulation.
DESCRIPTION OF WORK
The objectives will be met by organising the work into four major work packages:
The "Requirements" workpackage will identify the mobile security and privacy requirements of the actors on whom the success of future mobile communications, systems and services will depend: users, service providers, network operators, equipment suppliers and regulatory bodies. This entails identifying the key challenges and issues arising from mobility in services and communications. The "Architecture and Technologies" workpackage starts with a state-of-the-art review, taking into account ongoing research activities as well as developments in standards bodies and user forums. From this review, a list of existing and emerging security and privacy-enhancing technologies will be obtained. Building upon the previous requirements analysis, how the identified technologies can be used to meet the requirements will be assessed by means of an application/ technology matrix. This will result in recommendations for future research. The next important step is to see how the identified technologies can be combined in crucial scenarios, e.g. mobile banking, mobile health, etc. Based on the results from the previous workpackages, the "Assessment" workpackage will draw conclusions with respect to open research issues as well as implications for regulation and standardisation. It will issue recommendations for European research in the area within FP6. By means of a SWOT analysis from a European perspective, different options and strategies will be evaluated. The accompanying "Dissemination" workpackage will, throughout the lifetime of the accompanying measure, disseminate the results by means of workshops, presentations, reports, web presentations, and co-ordination with standards bodies, industry forums and the Wireless World Research Forum.

Argomento(i)
