Map kinase control of plant pathogen defence

Obiettivo

I know Erik well from my experience as Erik's supervisor in my group of ten people. The aim of Erik's thesis was to characterize defence mechanisms towards insect pests and pathogens in Basic napes and Arabidopsis thalami, mainly conferred by the myrosinase/glucosinolate system but also to analyse the general wound response. Erik's major contribution has been to study the regulation of the myosin's associated protein in oilseed rape, genomic cloning and isolation of the corresponding promoter, study the functionality of this in Arabidopsis and initiate studies aimed to characterize elements in the promoter conferring the wound induced expression of the gene after insect attack. He has also shown that the myrosinase/ nglucosinolate system is not involved in defence against a fungal pathogen. His work has resulted in two publications and three manuscripts. During his PhD studies Erik has obtained a broad knowledge in molecular plant biology. The main laboratory techniques he has used are PCR, genomic cloning, making hybrid-DNA constructs, differential display, northern, southern, western blot, enzyme activity measurements, in-site hybridisation and immunohistochemistry. Erik is also skilful with all types of sterile work concerned with plant growth and transformation, but also pest handling. Furthermore, he has also come in contact with analysis of secondary metabolites and hormones, as well as ecological considerations. He also masters DNA and protein sequence analysis by a number of software applications. Erik is ambitious, enthusiastic and devoted to his research projects. He follows the literature and comes up with many good ideas. At the same time he has a critical approach. Erik has a mature way of thinking in science and is independent so he is capable to imitate, process, evaluate and report experiments by himself. Furthermore he has the capacity of having several projects ongoing at the same time. He has also experience as a co-sup

Programma(i)

Programmi di finanziamento pluriennali che definiscono le priorità dell’UE in materia di ricerca e innovazione.

Argomento(i)

Invito a presentare proposte

Procedura per invitare i candidati a presentare proposte di progetti, con l’obiettivo di ricevere finanziamenti dall’UE.
