Objetivo
The HISPEEDMIX target is the definition of the main guidelines ruling the freight and passenger management on the existing and future European High Speed Rail Network, taking into account the peculiar aspects related to the medium and long term transport planning. Furthermore, HISPEEDMIX has been proposed as a project to examine two different scenarios for offering freight services on the European High Speed Rail Network:
a) to assess the market requirements for high speed freight traffic and the capability of the existing high speed lines to cope with such a traffic
b) to study the utilisation of the high speed network for traditional freight traffic in mixed traffic conditions.
The overall work plan consists of the following tasks:
1. to perform a market analysis for two scenarios, high speed freight and conventional freight, and to identify the customer needs for high speed market segments
2. to evaluate the impact of the freight train traffic on the RAMS performances on the European High Speed Rail Network
3. to identify the technological constraints related to the implementation of the mixed traffic on infrastructure, nodes and rolling stock
4. to define the maintenance model and the maintenance plan for both scenarios
5. to analyse the operational constraints in terms of traffic, resources and facilities
6. to assess and validate the results by means of a case study (Turin-Lyon segment)
7. to perform the cost benefit analysis
8. to specify the conditions under which the use of the European High Speed Rail Network is feasible and cost effective for high speed and conventional freight traffic and passenger traffic.
Links with other projects, tasks, areas, programmes, policy actions:
The first three WPs, i.e. definition of requirements/methodology definition/rail strategy implementation, are strictly linked
with INTELFRET and EUFRANET projects.
The fourth WP, i.e. system and safety aspects, takes into account the interoperability specifications coming from ERTMS-programme
The fifth WP is linked to the Alpetunnel
