HORMONAL REGULATION OF ION TRANSPORT IN VERTEBRATE EPITHELIA

Ziel

Research into the hormonal regulation of ion transport has been conducted in the following areas:
improvement of noise analysis and patch clamp techniques;
measurement of intracellular calcium by the optical technique of microscopic fluorimetry;
improvement of cell culture techniques for isolating cells and preparing them for patch clamping;
measurements with intracellular microelectrodes to investigate the expression of the sodium ion channels from the hen large intestine in Xenopus oocytes;
cation transport mechanisms of the embryonic coprodeum and their regulation by aldosterone and thyroxine;
long term effects of aldosterone on the epithelia of the lower gut of the domestic fowl;
intestinal transport of sodium chloride and water in the pig;
magnesium transport across the wall of forestomachs and grass tetany in cattle;
new developments of electrical impedance methods for measuring membrane capacitance;
investigation of highly selective and poorly selective cation pathways in epithelia;
noise analysis of chloride ion currents through amphibian epithelia.
