Impacto de las technicas de cultivo sobre las reservas de nitrogeno organicoen suelos tropicales. Calibrado de un modelo adaptado a la fertilidad nitrogenada

Bovine Viral Diarrhoea (BVD) is a cosmopolitan disease caused by a pestivirus responsible for various pathological disorders such as digestive, respiratory and genital syndromes and of a debilitating subclinical chronic form. Its main characteristic is a conspicuous immunodepressive action in the host.

Recent findings in our laboratory indicate that:
- in man there is a prevalence of specific antibodies against BVD virus, particularly to the non-cytopathic (NCP) strains
- the contact with susceptible animals is probably an important epidemiological factor
- transmission to man seems to be a world-wide phenomenon
- antibody specificity is confirmed by Western Blotting Test (WBT) - the screening in AIDS patient groups showed slight higher
prevalence for BVDv
- in a first screening of 60 samples, a NCP strain was isolated in 2 buffy coats and recognized by specific anti-BVD sera

The purpose of the proposed research is:
- the further optimization of WBT for BVD virus as reference test for serology in man
- screening on human sera in Europe and Zambia with IIF and
confirmation with WBT
- isolation of Bvdv in human buffy coat samples
- characterization of virus isolates
- evaluation of an eventual etiopathogenic role on diarrhoea, especially in neonates, and genital disorders in man
- comparative study of double infected patients and patients with only HIV infection in order to evaluate the possible interaction of BVD infection with the evolution of HIV infection.
