Creating the next generation of 3D simulation means for icing

Deliverables

Definition of the target requirements for test facilities operating envelopes for snow

Detailed report describing the icing conditions and A/C operating envelopes needeed to be investigated to support design validation and certification in snow conditions and defining the operating envelope of IWT, the characteristics of instrumentation to be used for measurements and the relevant parameters to be investigated in order to be able to define an experimental envelope being compliant with requirements. Related task(s): Task 3.2.

Definition of the target requirements for test facilities operating envelopes for App O

Detailed report describing the icing conditions and A/C operating envelopes needeed to be investigated to support design validation and certification in App. O conditions and defining the operating envelope of IWT, the characteristics of instrumentation to be used for measurements and the relevant parameters to be investigated in order to be able to define an experimental envelope being compliant with requirements. Related task(s): Task 3.1.

Definition of numerical capability requirements for snow

Detailed report presenting an exhaustive literature review on the existing models, numerical techniques and experimental data that are currently available for the development of 3D numerical tools for snow. Then requirements will be defined in terms of basic tests to be performed in WP10, model features, model accuracy, numerical techniques to be used, interface with existing industrial tools, and validation procedure. Related task(s): Task 3.6.

Selection of most suitable instrumentation for F/T

Review of available airborne instrumentation for snow microphysical properties characterization (bulk LWC/IWC/TWC, number and mass PSD, snow crystals' shapes) and according definition of ICE GENESIS snow flight tests aircraft payload. Related task(s): Task 5.1.

Calibration methodology for snow test facility

Detailed report of used calibration methodology and criteria for producible snow capacity and quality for Go/No-Go decision gate. It will also inlude guidance to standardisation working groups (EUROCAE, SAE). Related task(s): Task 7.4.

Definition of numerical capability requirements for liquid icing conditions

Detailed report presenting an exhaustive literature review on the existing models, numerical techniques and experimental data that are currently available for the development of 3D numerical tools for App C and O. Then requirements will be defined in terms of basic tests to be performed in WP9, model features, model accuracy, numerical techniques to be used, interface with existing industrial tools, and validation procedure. Related task(s): Task 3.5.

Selection of most suitable instrumentation for IWT/T calibration

Review of available instrumentation for bulk LWC/IWC/TWC, snow number PSD, wind tunnel homogeneity measurement and according selection of most suitable instrumentation for IWT calibration. Related task(s): Task 5.2.

ICE GENESIS Public Website

The public website will be used as a communication tool. Project information will be made available for download including public deliverables, flyers, posters, etc. Announcements and information on events will also be provided. It will be updated regularly (task 2.1). Related task(s): Task 2.1.

Initial communication kit with information about project structure and goals

Initial communication kit with information about project structure and objectives. The communication kit is expected to include a flyer / leaflet and a poster, as well as a presentation template (task 2.1). Related task(s): Task 2.1.
