City of Nottingham green commuter plan

Cel

Nottingham City Council, with its local partners and Stadt Karlsruhe, will take the necessary action in accordance with green Commuter Plan strategies to reduce car traffic thus assisting the projection of the global environment and contribute towards a sustainable future.

The Nottingham Green Commuter Plan will persuade Nottingham City Council staff to travel to and from work by more environmentally friendly modes of transport than compared to the car, including public transport, cycling, car sharing and walking.

A green commuter plan is a policy tool used to address the problems caused by commuter traffic and its associated impact in terms of transport emissions and congestions on the natural and built environment. Public and private sector organisations have key roles to play in implementing such an initiative.

It will support and advise other organisations on the production of commuter plans located in the City and disseminate information more widely, thereby raising environmental awareness and promoting sustainable transport actions. The Council will enter into partnerships with other organisations, regions and cities.

Links have been made with the two universities in Nottingham to work in partnership on green commuter plan implementation. Nottingham City Council will work the Nottingham Green Partnership in order to assist in developing other commuter plans within the city. Transboundary links with Stadt Karlsruhe in Germany to work on this project have been established.
