USE OF LIMESTONE TRANSPORT CIRCUIT TO GENERATE ELECTRICAL POWER

Cel

The primary aim of the project is the replacement of conventional transport systems, using dumper trucks, by a set of conveyor belts, some descending, whlch would recover energy which would subsequently be returned to the grid.
The project involves a financial risk, given the investment differential of 280 million pesetas involved.L%

The set of conveyor belts planned would be located between the material extraction area (quarry) and the material preparation area, a distance of some 4 kilometres with a difference in height of about 5OO m. The installation would consist of six belt units with a capacity of 1,000 tonnes per hour.
Two of the belts are ascending, while the remaining four are descending. The energy recovered with the installation in operation would be of 658 kW, corresponding to a generation of 1069 kW and a consumption of 450 kW. Energy recovery is carried out by means of a set of motor-generator elements wich make use of the energy generated by the materials transported in the descending belts. The basic part of the system consists of the regulation and control elements, which, once the belts have been set in motion, ensure switch-over from motor-function to generator-function, by regulating the speed of the belts to the time which ensures return to the grid of electricity with constant voltage and frequency values.
