Cel The target of the Liquid Handling Competence Centre (LICOM) is to facilitate the access of industry and users (in particular SMEs) to microfluidics and to implement purpose-designed services, based on advanced scientific knowledge and innovative technology, aimed at successfully accomplishing the incorporation of microfluidics in existing and new products.Objectives:The Competence Centre will offer technical support and design skills organised around products and applications knowledge. Concerning the technical domain LICOM focuses on devices capable to analyse, pump, mix, monitor or control small volumes of liquids. In this domain HSG-IMIT is among the leading institutions in Europe, both in terms of knowledge and manpower.Work description:Various activities are offered in order to fulfil the main task of LICOM: to facilitate a broad take up of Microsystem Technology. Marketing Activities are aimed at raising awareness and providing information for take-up. A brochure will inform business executives about the possibilities and benefits of MST. An internet site (www.microfluidics.de) will enable interactive communication. The data base related to this site will be frequently updated in order to establish a portal site for microfluidics. Technical assistance for the development of new products will be given through consultation on an individual basis answering technical questions and queries concerning the practicability of solutions/technologies. Feasibility studies including literature searches as well as preliminary experiments will be conducted and training will be offered. Individual Innovation Workshops will be carried out. Herewith we support our customers in finding new fields of innovation and application. We will help our industrial partners to find out where the new technology can be applied usefully and successfully. Innovation Check and Innovation Management Workshops will complement these services. Our partners search service is designed to help our customers finding suitable partners - industrial, research institutions and universities - for national and international collaborations. For providing manufacturing services a document informing on different possibilities using our own infrastructure or cooperations with external manufacturers will be compiled. Innovation and Product Workshops, consultation, design and manufacturing services will lower barriers and facilitate access for SMEs.
