Functional genomics of g protein-coupled receptors

Cel

Applications are invited for postdoctoral positions in the area of functional genomics of G protein- coupled receptors. By using genetically tractable model organisms, such as yeast and c. elegans, together with mammalian cell target validation systems, human GPCR signaling networks will be studied. GPCRs play a role in inflammatory diseases, thrombotic and cardiovascular disorders, metabolic dysfunction and diseases of the central nervous system. Additional insight into their precise functions will help to define individual GPCRs and associated signaling molecules as targets for drug therapy. The research will be conducted at the Aventis Center for Functional Genornics (ACFG) in the prime biotech environment of Martinsried, Gerrnany. Aventis Pharma is a world leader in the field of drug discovery. The ACFG, one of three Aventis genomics centers, offers 2800 sq. meters of laboratory space devoted to research utilizing a broad range of current genamics technologies. The ACFG offers postdocs the opportunity to learn state-of-the-art technologies in functional genomics and proteomics, but also provides access to Aventis's extensive resources in lead generation (biotechnology, chemistry and HTS) and strategic alliances with academic and biotech partners in Europe and North America. Postdoctoral fellows are encouraged to present their work at scientific meetings and to publish in internationally recognized journals. We are looking to recruit highly motivated scientists who share our interest in using functional genomics and model organisms to identify new drug targets and develop innovative assay systems for target validation and HTS of Aventis' growing compound libraries. The ideal candidate will have experience with molecular biology and biochemistry. Experience with eukaryotic genetics would be a plus. Fluency in English is required To apply, send a cover letter with your curriculum vitae and two letters of recommendation to Prof . Ekkehard Leberer.
