Cel The aim of the planned research is to establish, for structural elements subjected to tensile and bending stresses, a rational basis for the requirements relating to structural steels in the form of material properties suitable for both applications and performance. In the case of tensile stressing, existing work needs to be confirmed by additional tests on large tensile specimens; for beams subjected to bending stresses, simulation calculations will be carried out in order to gain an understanding of the extent of various influences with the aid of parametric analyses. Subsequent tests on I beams will make it possible to confirm the validity of models built on the basis of the simulation calculations.
