The control of embryo implantation: studies of gene expression, protein profiles / functions at the utero embryonic level: cellular and molecular developmental events at the feto maternal interface

Obiettivo

EMBIC virtual European laboratory on major mechanisms of implantation will study thoroughly the main cellular - cytokine networks/ key pathways promoting the de novo development of the decidua basalis and the mature placenta. Present fragmentation of experimental capacity and disparate approaches result in lack of a comprehensive skills base, and of access to specialised approaches/ technological platforms such as strict animal experimentation, genomics and proteomics facilities or multicentric clinical evaluation. Which need coordinated approach. We will thus: 1. Assemble critical talents and approaches, to Integrate EMBIC laboratories via the joint programme of activities: 1.1. Early embryo signalling to ultimately allow selection of only those embryos which will effectively implant; 1.2. Key events in tissue remodelling: 1.3. Homing/ proper activation of Natural Killer (NK) cells 1.4. Role of MHC class I gene products and their recognition by NK cells 1.5. Control of the inflammation complement related pathways 1.6. Cytokine/ chemokines/ profiling 1.7. Invasion and early post implantation events, Matrix Metallo Protease based proteolysis/ adhesion molecule functions. 2. Constitute a European cohort of infertile women and RT generated DNA, sera and micro-biopsy tissue samples banks. 3. Establish guidelines for management of infertile women combined with diagnosis procedures and ultimately recombinant technologies therapies for selected pathologies. 4. Open the network for education and cooperative experimentation. EMBIC will contribute and benefit from the creation of integrated platforms based on animal models, genomic and proteomic facilities, protein intra-net database set-up, integrated clinical set-up, and will spread excellence by facilitating the exchange of scientists within the laboratories, promote recruitment/training of out network post-docs, organise workshops and satellite meetings and an annual summer school.
