Radioactive waste and the nuclear fuel cycle: Community periodical
"EC Focus" is a periodical newsletter on the activities of the European Community in the field of radioactive waste management and decommissioning of nuclear installations. The twelve-page newsletter, issued by the Commission's Directorate-general for Science, Research and Development (DG XII), reports on actions taken at Community, Member State and international levels, concerning all aspects of the safe management and safe storage of nuclear waste, together with the latest information on techniques for the decommissioning of nuclear installations, covering research activities and practical decommissioning experience worldwide. Edition 15 of "EC Focus" examines the Communities' renewed plan of action covering the period 1993-1999 in the field of radioactive waste, established by the Council Resolution of 15.6.1992 (OJ No C 158 of 25.6.1992) and compares this with the 1980-1992 plan. Highlighted in particular are the new measures introduced to take account of technological advances and enhanced safety and environmental requirements. Other items in the issue deal with quality assurance in the management of waste in the European community, and the European Network of testing facilities for the quality checking of radioactive waste packages. The mid-term review of the programmes on radioactive waste management and the decomissioning of nuclear installations is also featured. Appended to the newsletter is a listing of 38 recent publications resulting from the Communities' specific RTD programme (Euratom) in the field of management and storage of radioactive waste, 1990-1994, together with several published results of RTD projects undertaken within the specific RTD programme (Euratom) in the field of decommissoning of nuclear installations, 1989-1993.
