Commission to relax BSE-related restrictive measures for Portugal
The European Commission will formally adopt a proposal to gradually lift restrictions on the export of Portuguese beef and allow the resumption of certain exports under strict conditions of a Data based export scheme (DBES) after receiving backing for its plans from the Standing veterinary committee has announced its support of a European Commission proposal 'Such exports to third countries and EU Member States of beef and beef exports would be authorised after inspection reports have confirmed the correct implementation of the scheme in the ground,' reports the Commission. Only de-boned meat from animals, born after 1 July 1999, between six and 30 months of age complying with the conditions of the DBES would be eligible for export. The ban on exports of live bovine animals from Portugal remains in place.
