Commission authorizes aid to French, German and Spanish coal-mining industries
The European Commission has authorized State aid payments, part of which are to be used for research and development, to the coal-mining industries in the following Member States: - France: ECU 682 million (covering 1996); - Germany: ECU 6,958 million (covering 1995-96); - Spain: ECU 1,850 million (covering 1994-96). These State aid grants have been authorized by the Commission since they are in the form of compensation payments as part of previously approved restructuring plans.
