Customising Europe's tourism
Tourists usually are in a quest of information such as attractions, accommodations, restaurants, performances, schedules and routes. Of course this information is available in print form or via the Internet or both. However, with the m-ToGuide project, it is now immediately accessible, flexible and customised to fit the savvy tourist travelling in and across Europe today. What's more is that its content can be in the form of audio, visual as well as text. The m-ToGuide service is in the form of a portable, handheld mobile device offering information exchange relevant to the specific location, time and personal profile of the user. For example, it can show the tourist a desired location using the most suitable format of a map or photograph. It can then show the tourist how to get to that location using the best method of transportation. If the tourist wishes to attend an entertainment event or an attraction, the m-ToGuide can provide a list of must see attractions, complete with their corresponding dates, times and locations. If the tourist desires to choose one of the proposed attractions on the list, the m-ToGuide would then purchase the tickets or make a reservation. This intelligent decision processing service is all transmitted through GSM/GPRS cell phone networks and the Internet and can further offer a multilingual environment, privacy and security in diverse tourist environments. Taking into consideration its utility and ease, it may likely be appealing to tourists as well as Europe's tourism industry.
