Software fit for the user
Much of the elderly population may be confined within the home due to infirmaries or illness. Considering the demands of the 21st Century, this means they are often unable to receive adequate social support. Therefore, the SAID project (Social Aid Interactive Developments) has designed a set of telematic services for the elderly through intelligent Software Agents. These include the extensive use of Autonomous Agents technology that can behave as a personalised assistants, which in turn can act as an information provider, reminder, shopping assistant, etc. The software has been designed to search, classify and filter information from the internet, databases, etc and automatically and fit it to a user's profile. The system is applied as a standalone module type that can communicate with the application layer by means of a well-defined XML protocol. The software can be employed in various applications that demand personalised information. Some of these include TV, Internet and mobile phones. It also contains a tool that can automatically obtain and update a user profile and use their feedback to alter topics ranking them according to preference. In short, the developed technology can provide the elderly with a user-friendly means of staying in touch even in today's ever-changing digital world.
