Learning Latin digitally

Cultural Heritage Language Technologies (CHLT) has designed a Web based Lemmatisation Module known as CHLT-LEMLAT for Early Modern Latin. It can be used with the texts in the CHLT Digital Library Collections as well as any Latin text found on the Internet.

CHLT (Cultural Heritage Language Technologies) is an international collaboration that has addressed important questions and sought practical solutions related to the design of International Digital Library Technology. The collaboration aimed at producing a base for the creation of pioneering International Digital Library Technology (IDLT). Also included was an array of IT applications that can be used within digital collections. They especially involve early modern Latin, classical Greek, and Old Norse texts. The applications provide generic tools for multi-lingual information retrieval; concept identification and visualisation; vocabulary analysis and syntactic parsing. CHLT-LEMLAT enables more integration between Cultural Heritage resources of Latin texts and ICT tools and applications. This can provide ways of comprehending and interpreting such rare texts even in absence of a classical education. Now, users can take advantage of complicated automatic morphological tools to formulate their understanding of Latin and face fewer obstacles in terms of word and text comprehension. This tool will be especially useful for teachers of elementary and intermediate Latin in secondary and higher education. However, it is also of use to the advanced scholars, life-long learners and the interested general public.
