Project description
Advanced Robotics
Monitoring of public and private sites is increasingly becoming an important and critical issue in the field of security and surveillance. Mobile multi-sensors surveillance systems able to be deployed quickly to analyse a situation will enhance the efficiency of the security team. In this context UAV (Unmanned Aerial Vehicle) provide new opportunities for research in environment sensing. To answer to this need, the project aims to develop a small size VTOL (Vertical take Off and Landing) UAV designed for autonomous inspection and survey task in urban area or more generally in constraint outdoor environment (known and unknown with moving obstacle). The heart of the project is focused on the development of software and hardware modules for the autonomy of a small size drone in term of navigation, localization and robustness to unexpected events (avoid obstacle, RF communication loss, GPS loss, aerologic perturbation). To reach these objectives, the project is divided into three fields of research and development:- Development of a Mission Control System with an intuitive Man Machine Interface for mission preparation and control- Perception and command for complete flight autonomy- µUAV conception and developmentScenarios will prove the interest of this concept, such as security application in unknown urban environment, and automatic survey of sensitive site (e.g. nuclear sites). The project gathers 5 partners for a duration of 3 years, with a budget of 3.3M :CEA List , technology research centre will be the coordinator of the project, and will work on multimodality embedded sensor for localisation and autonomous navigation.Univ. of Tünbingen will develop the automatic obstacle avoidance.Thales security will have in charge the Mission Control System (MCS) with MMI.AirRobot SME in the field of µVTOL will design and develop the prototype.Lisippos as end users, will participate in the definition of scenarios and the validation of the concept.

Funding Scheme
Funding scheme (or “Type of Action”) inside a programme with common features. It specifies: the scope of what is funded; the reimbursement rate; specific evaluation criteria to qualify for funding; and the use of simplified forms of costs like lump sums.
