Periodic Reporting for period 2 - FUSILLI (Fostering the Urban food System Transformation through Innovative Living Labs Implementation)
Periodo di rendicontazione: 2022-07-01 al 2023-12-31
The LLs strive to uncover best practices in food system transformation and share them with the Knowledge Community (KC). Through close cooperation with other projects and initiatives, these cities will emerge as catalysts for innovation, facilitating the long-term development of urban food planning by learning from successful policies and actions.
Key achievements include the development of comprehensive manuals, roadmaps, and evaluation frameworks to guide Living Lab activities. Each city has developed an Urban Food Action Plan and a report of Implemented Actions to provide actionable insights and strategies for urban food planning.
Furthermore, FUSILLI has prioritized knowledge exchange and capacity building activities, including webinars, workshops, and a knowledge platform (https://fusilli-project.eu/). These initiatives have facilitated the dissemination of best practices and lessons learned among the Living Labs and broader stakeholder communities.
The project's collaborative efforts with other EU initiatives and sister projects have further enriched its impact and outreach. Joint events, dissemination strategies, and collaboration with the FOOD2030 project network have extended the project's reach to a wider scope of stakeholders. FUSILLI's emphasis on transparency and citizen involvement has fostered community-driven food system transformation, with initiatives promoting responsible consumption, production, and reducing food loss and waste.
City policies and actions are expected to be deployed and replicable. FUSILLI explores an Investment Infrastructure process for long-term city-scale investments, involving new business models. Business models have been developed, and objective of assessing business plans against demo implementations has been accomplished.
Progress includes the establishment of Food Councils (in 5 cities), Food Charters (in 12 cities) and Municipal Food Commissions (in 4 cities) contributing to municipal interdepartmental bodies, multistakeholder structures and urban food policies development.
The project has made significant strides in political commitment, capacity building and the creation of the FOOD2030 LL. It has guided the creation of LLs, outline milestones achieved and introduce the quintuple helix innovation sector framework. The project actively engages with rural areas and evaluates the implementation of policies and actions, documenting challenges, lessons learned and local impacts. The evaluation all actions is supported by the ICT-tool integrated into the KC platform.
FUSILLI has established a network of 12 European cities. Internal and external collaboration through different events, workshops, webinars, and the adherence to international networks, have led to reach out numerous cities worldwide, promoting collaboration and disseminating results.
The project emphasizes transparency through open access sharing of deliverables and publications on its website and Zenodo. FUSILLI prioritizes citizen involvement through social initiatives, including a social game app and various actions promoting responsible consumption, production and reducing food loss and waste. Digital and social media engagement contributes to widespread outreach with the multifaceted approach actively involving citizens in community-driven food system transformation. Efforts are made to address food insecurity, enhance food and nutrition security and strengthen rural-urban linkages.
Social inclusion and equity are priorities, with initiatives addressing inequalities, health disparities and dietary habits, and policies benefiting vulnerable groups. The number of community-based food assets contributes to building resilient and inclusive communities.
The project contributes to innovation, job creation and economic growth in cities with evidence of job opportunities (580 opportunities created -voluntary and employed), economic activity for local producers, and increased involvement of businesses in the local food ecosystem. The commitment to economic growth and innovation is emphasized, supporting cities in exploiting long-term business opportunities.
Finally, the project demonstrates a collective commitment to the bioeconomy sector, encompassing GHG mitigation, resource efficiency and circularity, and initiatives to restore ecosystems. Cities engage in actions to reduce land degradation, conserve biodiversity and repurpose food waste into bio-products and biofertilizers.
