Augmented Reality GREEN_CAmera and Manufacturing

Periodic Reporting for period 2 - AR_GREEN_CAM (Augmented Reality GREEN_CAmera and Manufacturing)

Berichtszeitraum: 2021-12-01 bis 2023-11-30

The product from this project offers a total new camera for mobile phones and portable devices that comprises in the same device, the possibility of offering a dual-purpose universal camera module capable of capturing full-sensor resolution 2D images, as well as to offer improved depth maps.

How we envision to make this real is by tackling one of the world’s hottest issues: global warming. We have defined three main objectives aligned with our motivation of producing an industry-changing device on a very environmentally friendly way. These objectives are:
1. To develop the world´s lowest power consumption dual-purpose Mini Camera (for depth and high resolution images) that globally will save energy consumption of 126.964 MWh and emissions of 83.102 tons of carbon dioxide per year.
2. Fine-tune and deploy novel power and CAPEX efficient optics-electronics active alignment methods and machines by which will manufacture cameras that globally will save 11,14 MW (33.434 tons of CO2). When adopted by the semiconductor industry it will save 2.643 MW (7.9 million tons of CO2) per year.
3. Introduce a novel component-packaging method by which we will replace 78,53 tons of plastics by reusable and recyclable biodegradable materials. When adopted by the semiconductor industry this will replace every year 37.262 tons of plastic with biodegradable materials.
During this first 8-month period ranging from December 2020 to July 2021, we have managed to define and design the components of the microcamera, aligned with our energy-efficiency targets.
The tasks completed during this first period are:
• T2.1: High volume manufacturing lines. Requirement specifications for WP5
• T2.2: Camera Requirement specifications
• T2.3: Optical design

As it can be seen, these tasks are directly aimed at producing a new camera. These actions are very product-driven, being the pivotal point of the whole project.
Besides, the tasks that are ongoing are:
• T.4.1: Dissemination, Exploitation, Communication
• T.4.2: IP management
• T5.1: Manufacturing line design (6M/Y- concept cluster)
• T5.2: Clean room and manufacturing clusters build
Progress beyond the state of the art is being made. At this point, we have identified a design and methodology to manufacture a critical element for our products that is being protected a patent filing. Besides, different iterations in the spirit of offering a better product for our final users are leading us to a new design that is being analyzed for its patentability.
