Project description
Validation of new technologies for the next generation train control and monitoring system
In 2018, 8 billion passengers travelled on national railway networks in the EU, with international travel representing less than 8 % of the total. Passenger transport by rail continues to grow, and the EU is investing in programmes to enhance performance, reliability and safety while reducing environmental impact. The EU-funded CONNECTA-3 project will advance the readiness of the next generation train control and monitoring system, an on-train distributed control system acting as a single point of control for all train subsystems, which will be connected using a common bus able to reliably mix different critical applications. The project will also develop the simulation framework required to evaluate certification readiness.
Objective
Continuation project of CONNECTA-2 (GA 826098) which targets the high TRL deployment and validation in two relevant laboratory
demonstrators and field tests for urban and regional scenarios of the following technologies:
- Wireless TCMS, including wireless train backbone, wireless consist network and standardized train-to-ground according to IEC 61375-2-6.
- NG-TCN including high safe (SIL4) communication networks to support the drive-by-data concept, including brake-by-wire.
- Functional Open Coupling (FOC)
- Functional Distribution Framework (FDF) instantiated with two different approaches (modified AUTOSAR and selfimplemented
on top of specific operating system), together with relevant application profiles.
- The virtual certification simulatiom framework, with hardware-in-the-loop and remote connectivity to subsystems
The goal is to reach TRL6/7 in most developments.
