Landscape of security research CSO: Mapping, Strategies and Best Practices for Citizen and Societal Engagement

This deliverable will report activities of task T2.1. It will map the European landscape of CSOs engaged in security research in the four pilot domains (paying particular attention to the diversity of established and emerging CSOs). It will look at CSOs at the national and EU-level (including those active in H2020 security research programme), identifying potential partners in each EU Member State and associated country that participates in HE. This task will consider results of projects such as SecurePART. This deliverable will also map key security research policymakers, impact assessment organisations, security practitioners (including pan-European network of practitioners), security research projects and research community experts (who we see as best friends to support inclusion of civil society) critical to the execution and impact of the project.

TRANSCEND Exploitation and Sustainability Report

This deliverable will provide final version of the project's exploitation and sustainability strategy. The Exploitation plan will illustrate what such results (of the project) are and suggests the strategy and actions to make the most use of them and ensure their sustainability.

Plan for Dissemination and Communication

This deliverable will provide TRANSCEND dissemination and communication strategy and include planning for promoting and disseminating TRANSCEND results and activities to the public and relevant stakeholders using appropriate tools.

Initial Exploitation and Sustainability Plan

The delivrable will pprovide a coherent exploitation plan, a crucial step for the success of the project. The Exploitation plan will illustrate what such results (of the project) are and suggests the strategy and actions to make the most use of them and ensure their sustainability. TRANSCEND’s Exploitation and Sustainability Plan will: a) Ensure the sustainability of the project results after its completion b) Encourage the target stakeholders to provide inputs regarding outcomes and take-up results of the project c) Connect with different relevant organisations, consortiums and networks to share exploitations goals and ambitions.

State of the art in methods for citizen and societal engagement

This deliverable will provide a review of the state of the art in methods for involving societal actors and stakeholders in security research and innovation. We will also (briefly) review related methods for inclusion and diversity, key dimensions of RRI, and look at other domains, e.g., energy or health care. Moreover, this deliverable aims to better understand which methods do (not) work in practice (benefits and limitation) and why, so that we can develop a TRANSCEND Toolbox (see Task 1.3), building on and learning from available methods.

Policy advocacy report

This deliverable will report on activities under task T4.4. The policy advocacy activities will operate at two different levels. One, targeting and engaging specific audiences and stakeholders, including policy makers and elected representatives and relevant operational actors spreading the voice and goals reached by the project. Two, advocacy activities/actions. Task T4.4 will target local, regional, national and international policy makers, civil society, NGOs and associations with specific messages. Activities here will include policy briefs (one per area of pilots) (EOS will develop template), meetings with policy makers (at the EU and national level) (led/facilitated by FESU), and four tools implementation support workshops at the national level targeted at policymakers, local authorities from other cities and/or regions, advocacy campaign to increase the involvement of civil society and citizens in security tech research that will be validated by FESU executive committee that consists of about 30 local governments.

Pilot strategy

Based upon the findings from WP1 (stock-take) and in collaboration with WP2 (stakeholder mapping and networking) this deliverable will provide a strategy for suitable activities and organisations for the TRANSCEND pilot case studies, reflecting the broad variety of CSOs.

Final version of the TRANSCEND toolbox, including a method to evaluate and promote citizen and societal engagement (T1.4).

State of the art in ethical, human rights and societal impact assessment

This deliverable will review the state of the art in methods for ethical, human rights and societal (including socio-economic) impact assessments, i.e., qualitative and quantitative methods to measure the impact of technologies on society. We are particularly interested in methods used in the security domains in which the pilots will be organised (WP3): CS, DRS, FCT and BM.

Mutual learnings and trainings

This deliverable will report on activities conducetd under task T2.4 focused on developing four training modules (one per pilot area) to promote societally responsible innovation in security research. These training modules will be available for CSOs and end-users of security research products. FESU will provide a web platform to make the modules easily accessible. This platform was developed in the framework of the EU funded Secu4All project. Working from requirements established during the project, EOS will be responsible for the overall organisation and coordination of mutual learning /trainings. FESU, AutRC, FMP with their network of Code for All and local practitioner partners from each case, will organise the content, stakeholders and locations for the mutual learnings/trainings.
