Risultati finali
Design and development of the digital games and physical toys of Craeft, their application and their evaluation in P3. The first version (M18) will contain the design, preliminary implementation, validation and demonstration. The second version (M36) will report on their evaluation, update, and final release. Digital games will be available on the Craeft website. The physical components of the toys will be available in 3D printable formats via the Craeft website in OpenAIRE datasets. Both toys and games will be accompanied by instructions and examples of use, via the Creaft website and in OpenAIRE publications. Each version of this deliverable consists of a report, software, and datasets.
Advanced digitisation technologies (si apre in una nuova finestra)Design and development of advanced digitisation technologies and their usage protocols. The methods will cover the 3D digitisation of challenging objects, made from (or including) shiny, translucent, and transparent materials, as well as the 2D and 2½D, very high-resolution scanning of surfaces. The first version (M18) will contain the design, implementation and preliminary testing in public datasets and datasets collected in Craeft. The second version (M36), will report on the update and final release of the systems and methods and will also release the collected digitisations in OpenAIRE datasets. A collection of high-resolution textures for materials used in the RCIs will be included in these datasets as a resource for 3D digital designers. Each version of this deliverable consists of a report, software, data, and demonstrators with instructions regarding the digitisation process for each technology developed.
Communication Plan and Activities (si apre in una nuova finestra)The communication plan (M2) will contain the intentions of Craeft on communication actions, per type of medium (i.e. social, mass media, participation in events etc.). The plan will define the modus operandi and the timeframe of interaction between partners and MDE regarding the contribution of content for the communication actions. The plan will include templates with instructions to systematise the contribution of partners to the communication activities. The plan will be accompanied by a shared electronic document for the systematic submission of this content. The reports (M12, M24, and M36), will regard the communication activities of Craeft per reporting period. The final version will contain an annex of all the newsletters published and state the consortium plan for post-project communication activities. Also, all newsletters will be available through the project website, at the time of their publication.
P4 – Community, methodology and results (si apre in una nuova finestra)This deliverable will report on Craeft’s efforts to create added value and enhance the preservation and sustainability of European crafts through a Community Portal that acts as a one-stop-shop for education, training, craft design and innovation in Europe. The first version (M24) will contain the methodology and use case scenarios for P4, the design of the implementation of this methodology, the first release of the Community Portal, and the progress of the pilot. It will furthermore report on the community built using this portal and provide the instructions, interviews, demonstrations, educational & training material, interviews with instructors and master classes hosted in the portal. The second version (M36) will contain the final Community Portal implementation and its evaluation. Specifically, it will report on the dissemination of pilot results, the support of entrepreneurship through new products and services by reaching out, the hosting of tenders for creative designs, and the final versions of the content provided in the first version of the deliverable. The deliverable will finally report on the user-based evaluation of the portal’s usability, user experience, its impact on the crafts community and with regards to the objectives of the project. Each version of this deliverable consists of a report and software.
Action and affordance modelling (si apre in una nuova finestra)Modelling craft actions regards their functional modelling in software so that they can be reenacted in simulation. Actions will be modelled in terms of required affordances, functional specification, and result prediction. The model will be generative in that when executed it should predict the outcome of an action, in terms of physical result and sensory signal generation. The functional part of this model is to be provided by D3.1. The specification will define the immersive properties and formats so that they can be reenacted in simulation. The first version (M12) reports on the model design and provides the preliminary simulation on the computer. The second version (M24) will update the model and integrate with the immersive presentation using visual and haptic immersive modalities. Each version of this deliverable consists of a report, software, data, and demonstrators.
Networking and Coordination (si apre in una nuova finestra)On the reports of the networking actions performed by Craeft and the participation of the consortium in coordination actions and events. The first version (M12) will contain an analytical mapping of the targeted organisations and stakeholders, the plans of action for the duration of the project, and the pertinent activities during the first reporting period. The second and third versions (M24 and M36), will update the plan and report the activities for the corresponding reporting periods.
Exploitation Plan and Activities (si apre in una nuova finestra)The exploitation plan for the Craeft outcomes and the reports on its update and implementation. The first version (M12) will identify the planned project outcomes and will map them to stakeholder groups, as well as provide a plan of which organisations and companies will be reached, outline the activities for the exploitation of project outcomes, and report upon these activities for the first year. The second and third versions (M24 and M36), will update the plan and report the activities for the corresponding reporting periods. All versions of this deliverable will report on the organisation and outcomes of the roundtables and project cluster meetings, organised in the context of Task 7.4.
P2 – Design, methodology and results (si apre in una nuova finestra)The deliverable will report on Craeft’s progress regarding the revival of traditional techniques, as well as the development of novel designs and fabrication aids. The first version (M24) will contain the methodology and use case scenarios of the Design Studio for each RCI and will report on the adoption progress per RCI. The report will contain the outcomes of the exploration of new designs according to material and technique, the inventory of traditional designs & styles, as well as the exploration of new materials & fabrication possibilities. The first version will also include the plans for experimental archaeology tasks, annexes of support knowledge of similar crafts, and the preliminary reproduction of traditional techniques of European crafts inscribed by UNESCO in Humanity’s Representative List of ICH. The second version (M36) will contain the Design Studio evaluation, the developed designs, the outcomes of the efforts on the recovery, the achieved digital reenactions of lost techniques, and a portfolio of previews of product appearance previews in real environments. The second version will also include the digitisation and ingestion of the developed products (designed using the Design Studio) developed using these designs, ingested in the CAP and also available as OpenAIRE datasets. Each version of this deliverable consists of a report, software, and datasets.
Scene and activity monitoring (si apre in una nuova finestra)Design and development of the scene and activity monitoring software, as well as the specifications for the appropriate data acquisition that will enable the optimal performance of this software. The software will digitise material geometry and appearance during actions and provide the means to obtain a segmentation of a dynamic scene containing a craft process, compatible with the entities defined in the maker material negotiation model. The first version (M18) will contain the design, implementation, and initial evaluation of the software in RCI-specific datasets collected in Craeft and public benchmark datasets. The second version (M36) will report on the update, the final release of the software, and the segmented data. Each version of this deliverable consists of both a report and software. The second version also includes said datasets and a guide for obtaining high-quality datasets for users with little technical expertise as OpenAIRE datasets and publications, respectively.
Dissemination Plan and Activities (si apre in una nuova finestra)The dissemination plan (M2) will contain the intentions of Craeft on dissemination action, per type of planned research and innovation action. The plan will outline the research areas for dissemination and map the scientific collaborations that will lead to joint papers. Moreover, the plan will report on the intentions of the consortium to establish agreements with publishers that will support the Open Access availability of Craeft publications and reduce their cost (e.g. agreements on special issues in journals or special sessions/workshops for conferences. The plan will also target the scientific fora where Creaft publications will have the optimal scientific impact. The plan will be accompanied by a shared electronic document to collect the references to the scientific contribution of partners. The reports (M12, M24, and M36), will update the communication activities of Craeft per reporting period. The final version will contain an annex with references to the publications of Craeft, as well as the reach of the dissemination events where Craeft outcomes were disseminated.
Knowledge collection and representation (si apre in una nuova finestra)Reports on the application of the advanced ethnographic methods (D1.1) to the RCIs, the collection of the corresponding data, the formation of knowledge elements, and the digital preservation of both. The output is datasets consisting of digital assets and semantic annotations (data and knowledge) in open and machine-interpretable formats. The first version (Μ12) contains the collection and organisation of data into knowledge, for each RCI. The second version (Μ24) contains the insights obtained from data analysis, the ingestion of data and knowledge in the CAP, and the provision of machine-interpretable representations of both data and knowledge in OpenAIRE repositories.
P1 - Education & Training (si apre in una nuova finestra)"This deliverable will report the contributions of Craeft to craft education and training. The first version (M24) will contain the drafting of the use of digital aids targeted per the training programme of each RCI, as well as the pedagogical methodology and usage scenarios for the Craeft Studio and Apprentice Studio software. It will furthermore provide the content collection for the contextualisation of the RCIs. CERFAV will compile the education and training outcomes for the program from the individual RCIs. [RCI1] Glassblowing of a cup, formal apprenticeship ""Certificate of Professional Competence"", for two learners and one expert. [RCI2] will be based on the ENSA-Limoges curriculum on kaolin extraction, composition recipes, moulding, pouring, enamelling, and firing of porcelain. [RCI3] will contain conventional clay recipes, motif semiotics, wood kiln firing conditions and a curriculum for pottery and archaeological experimentation workshops. [RCI4] will cover marble quarrying, splitting large marble blocks into smaller, sanding, and cutting with diamond-studded wires and will follow the curriculum of Preparatory & Professional School of Arts of Panormos, at Tinos, Greece. [RCI5] will be based on the CETEM curriculum on the creation of wood sculptures by (1) drawing/printing of design on the wood surface (2) First Carving/rough-down (3) Draw-up, rough carving, which sculpts the design, (4) Draw-up, edges, create figure outlines and refine small details, (5) Finishing: polishing, painting, protecting, varnishing. [RCI6] will be based on the curriculum of the Centre of Traditional Crafts of Ioannina on raising (sheet drawing and shaping the object’s form) and sand casting. [RCI7] will be based on the curricula of Villa Châteaufavier and ENSA-Limoges and will regard sheep breeding, shearing, washing, carding, combing, spinning, dyeing, and weaving, or interlocking, wool strings into a patterned fabric. [RCI8] will regard traditional weaving and decoration of fabrics with knitting and sewing and will be targeted at informal learning in duals. CERFAV will oversee these education and training results and methodology for each RCI. Moreover, it will contain the results of the comparative studies across RCIs for obtaining insights from differences in the treatment of similar materials and common principles for all basic craft actions (freeform, add, subtract, interlock). The second version (M36) will contain the final version of the curricula and the results of the evaluation of the effectiveness of the education and training aids per RCI. Each version of this deliverable includes: (a) Instructional methodology and software suite usage scenario, (b) Report, and (c) Publication of the education documents will be published on the OpenAIRE communication infrastructure."
Craft simulation and immersive craft training (si apre in una nuova finestra)Design and development of the Craft Studio and the Apprentice Studio software suites and reports upon their integration, validation, evaluation, and update, in the context of P1. The first version (M18) will contain the design, integration and validation of the suites. The second version (M36) will report on the final releases and evaluation of the suites and will showcase workflow scenarios for all RCIs, including conventional craft scenaria as well as workflows optimised for energy or material savings. Each version of this deliverable consists of both a report and software.
Craft Design revisited (si apre in una nuova finestra)Design and development of the Design Studio software suite and its integration, validation, evaluation, and update, in P2. The first version (M18) will contain the design, preliminary implementation, integration with peripheral digital manufacturing devices, and the validation of the suite. The second version (M36) will report on the evaluation, update, and final release of the suite, as well as its uses for the development of craft products. These uses will be reported as exemplars and the manufacturing designs will be available via the Craeft website in OpenAIRE publications. Each version of this deliverable consists of a report and software. The second version also includes said publications.
Enhanced ethnographic methods (si apre in una nuova finestra)Design of ethnographic methods supported by digital technologies and their rationale. Includes a good practice guide and a reproducible description of the recommended methods. The first version (Μ12) will be on the design and definition of the rationale of the approach, the identification of recording and interviews, the necessary processing and organisation of the acquired data to produce knowledge, and the authoring of reproducible instructions for ethnographers. The second version (Μ24) reports on the application and testing of these methods, improvements realised after their application, and a publication in the form of a good practice guide, published as a handbook under OpenAIRE.
Maker-Material-Negotiation model and CAP (si apre in una nuova finestra)The formal, machine-interpretable specification of the Maker-Material Negotiation model and the CAP implementation, along with documentation for both. The model will represent physical information about the objects, tools, gestures, grip postures, their motion, their affordances, and their interaction with materials. The model will be functional in that it functionally explains the scene and is capable of representing its multiple possible outcomes. The CAP will implement this model and enable the authoring of craft action representations. The CAP will map the semantic representation of the action with the functional specification of the action and its affordances. The CAP will provide the UI to author craft representations that are both semantic and functional. The first version (M12) will provide the model design and a preliminary, functional version of the CAP. The second version (M24) will provide its update and report on the use of the CAP for the representation of RCIs and its use to support the Community Portal. Each version of this deliverable consists of a report and software. The second version contains a guide to the authoring of craft representations using the CAP as an OpenAIRE publication.
Community Portal (si apre in una nuova finestra)Design and development of the Community Portal and its integration, validation, evaluation, and update, in P4. The first version (M18) will contain the design, integration, and validation of the Community Portal, as well as a mapping of the craft communities reached in that reporting period. The second version (M36) reports on the evaluation and final release of the portal and updates on its reach and impact in craft communities. Each version of this deliverable consists of a report and software.
Haptic devices for training, simulation, and design (si apre in una nuova finestra)Design and development of multiple types of haptic interaction devices and software interfaces for them, adopted by and developed in Craeft, their integration with the Craft, Apprentice, and Design Studio suites, and their evaluation in P1 and P2. The first version (M18) will contain the design, integration, and validation of these devices and their software interface and will provide exemplary demonstrations of their use in RCIs. The second version (M36) will report on the evaluation, final validation, and evaluation of the final releases, in pilot evaluations. Each version of this deliverable consists of both a report and software.
P3 – Valorisation, methodology and results (si apre in una nuova finestra)This deliverable will report on Craeft’s efforts on craft practice continuation and diversification of practitioner income streams. The first version (M24) will contain the methodology and use case scenarios for P3, map the network of professional practitioners that will be involved in P3, and present the plans for educational workshops that couple introductory crafting experiences with cultural tourism and which support distance learning. Moreover, it will contain the designs for craft-specific games and toys and will provide a software API with documentation for enhancing conventional products with digital dimensions whose content is maintained in the CAP. This version will also contain the content collection that will be used to contextualise the RCIs and will be presented in podcasts, electronic print, multimedia storytelling, and interactive and immersive experiences. The second version (M36) will contain the implementation and evaluation of these efforts. It will contain craft-specific workflows and instructions that reduce material waste and will contain the digital dimension infrastructures for certification of purchase, creator signage, collective/certification marks, composition, origin, production method, and linkage to “green” certificates. It will provide the final versions of digital games and physical toys and report on valorisation opportunities through tutoring services, marketing digital assets & designs, fabrication services, and consultation. Moreover, it will contain the final versions of the product promotion through realistic online previews, contextualisation content, and guides to craft-related thematic tourism destinations. Each version of this deliverable consists of a report and software.
Craft-specific action simulations (si apre in una nuova finestra)Design and development of the technologies and data collection protocols to implement RCI-specific simulators, by instantiating the Archetypal Action Simulators for these RCIs. The deliverable will report on the archetypal action models and craft-specific simulators that will predict the outcome of actions and affordances modelled in D2.1. The deliverable will report on the computational principles employed by archetypal simulators to represent the effect of elementary actions upon materials. The craft-specific simulators will create data that represent the geometric structure and the perceptual appearance of the treated materials, prior, during, and after the action, for specific tools, materials, conditions, and practitioner actions. The first version (M18) will include the design and software modelling of archetypal action simulators, their instantiation mechanism (using the output of D1.2), as well as the formative evaluation of these simulators in the lab. The second version (M36) will report on their update for the generation of sensory stimuli, as well as the results of the pilot evaluation. Each version of this deliverable consists of both a report and software.
