Creation of a distributed European Magnetic Field Laboratory

Obiettivo

The Radboud University Nijmegen, operating the High Field Magnet laboratory (HFML, for continuous magnetic fields), the Forschungszentrum Dresden-Rossendorf, operating the Hochfeld-Magnetlabor Dresden (HLD, for pulsed magnetic fields), and the Conseil National de la Recherche Scientifique, operating the Laboratoire National de Champs Magnétiques Intenses in Grenoble and Toulouse (LNCMI-G for continuous and LNCMI-T for pulsed magnetic fields), undertake a study how to organize and operate, under one umbrella, the European Magnetic Field Laboratory (EMFL).
This study will investigate all legal, financial, organisatorial and employment related issues, and formulate a document for the founding agreement of the EMFL of the 3 partners, or any other stakeholders that may be identified.
Different work packages will provide studies of the feasibility and cost of all the proposed investments in the new EMFL, and develop the in-house knowledge base for the investments, and harmonize experimental capabilities at the infrastructures. A web page and material will be developed for communication with the user community and the public. The coupling of high magnetic fields with advanced light sources will be investigated and how joint operation of different infrastructures can be organised, and a future roadmap for EMFL established.
