Final Report Summary - HICCUP (High Impact Cross-section Calculations for Unprecedented Precision)
A main outcome of the project has been the development of an event generator for two-to-one and two-to-two scattering processes that is accurate at next-to-next-to-leading order (NNLO) and includes parton-shower corrections. Depending on the process considered, a significant reduction of the theoretical errors, by a factor 2-4, has been achieved compared to previous event generators that were accurate at next-to-leading order (NLO) and included parton-shower corrections. A second main achievement of the project has been to push the frontier of next-to-leading logarithmic (NLL) resummations to next-to-next-to-leading logarithmic level (NNLL), thereby achieving a considerable reduction of uncertainty for important final state observables, including event-shapes and jet-rates. A large number of phenomenological studies have been carried out as a spin-off of the project.
