Cel Inspection of the blast-furnace-gas pipeline during full-capacity operation in order to: establish the degree of fouling in the pipeline, and the locations where such fouling occurs establish the condition of the pipe walling, particularly as regards pitting corrosion. As a minimum requirement, the system must be able to detect pits of 10 mm diameter and 5 mm depth to a location accuracy of 100 mm. Ergonomic implications: In principle, the aim is to develop an inspection method. Given the degree of precision required, it will be necessary to establish which tasks can and must be performed by man and which by technical aids (task allocation). Once the task allocation has been determined, specifications for the technical aids must be drawn up, based on human capabilities. Ergonomic benefits: Assuming that remote-control cleaning is feasible, it can only be justified if there is a way of checking that it has been done satisfactorily. If this is the case, then a time-consuming and dirty job will have been eliminated. The ability to establish the degree of corrosion before a leak occurs also entails improving the working conditions. Repairs can be planned, and in doing so the need to ensure decent working conditions for maintenance personnel can be taken into account. A new post is created : pipeline inspection operator.
