Leistungen

Advertisement of Vacancies

UCC will manage the advertisement of positions on EURAXESS. Each beneficiary will also advertise through their own channels and contacts.

At least 6 joint research publications in high impact journals

Joint research publications in high impact journals will be a measure of the success of the project and the consortium. The aim is to publish 6 such joint publications during the lifetime of the project.

An appraisal of the potential application of novel, flavour-producing yeast strains for production of fermented beverages.

YEASTDOC will apply advanced genetic tools to understand how different genes and alleles interact with each other and the environment to produce flavours and aromas in fermented and distilled beverages The potential for new hybrids and process conditions to be used in industry will be evaluated in conjunction with industrial partners Where appropriate plans for advancing the research to a higher TRL will be developed

A report describing a set of genes or alleles that individually or in combination enhance the industrial potential of yeast strains.

Genes and alleles that contribute to the improved aroma and flavour of fermented beverages will be identified in this project Strains that cope with both substrate and productinduced cellular stress and that have the ability to grow on inexpensive substrates and efficiently secrete the product will also be identified A report will be compiled describing the genes that contribute to these beneficial traits

A communication and engagement plan

A communication and engagement plan describing each activity, personnel involved, timeline for completion, and Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) for assessing delivery and impact, will be drawn up. This plan will be reviewed and updated annually.

An appraisal of whether the engineering strategies identified for improving industrial yeasts are effective and suitable for the improvement of diverse yeast cell factories

Engineering strategies such as genome engineering ALE reverse engineering will be utilized in the project This report will evaluate the effectiveness of such strategies

A report detailing the effectiveness of public communication and engagement strategy

A detailed public engagement plan will have been prepared at the beginning of the project This report will evaluate how successful this strategy was at engaging with the target audiences and at influencing perceptions both in the ESRs and the target audiences

A report on the effectiveness of the Industry engagement activities

The first route to exploitation of project outcomes naturally involves the Partner Organisations from YEASTDOC but there will also be broadly applicable outcomes that can benefit industry more widely Hence the dissemination plan will have specific components to promote engagement with additional potential industry endusers This includes interaction with industry platforms and societies This report will examine how effective these engagement strategies have been

A review of the application of advanced genetics for strain selection in beverage yeasts

A new methodology developed by ULEIC that involves mating diploids to overcome hybrid sterility followed by multigenerational crosses will be employed in YEASTDOC This leads to a huge increase in gene assortment relative to simple crosses and a large increase in the diversity of the hybrid population These populations will then be used in a screening and genetics programme to identify hybrids with novel flavouraroma characteristics and the genes responsible for this The project will also develop QTL approaches to map complex traits applying these methods to identify the basis of several important fermentation traits This report will evaluate the effectiveness of these methodologies

A public access website

A public website detailing the consortium and the research & training activities of YEASTDOC will be created.
