Innovative Manufacturing Routes for Next Generation Batteries in Europe

Risultati finali

Assessment of the State-of-the-Art of mult-physics modeling of gel-based and all-solid-state Li-Ion batteries

The state-of-the-art on multi-physics modeling of electrochemical energy storage systems will be assessed and the resulting document will be shared with the consortium. Both gel-based and all-solid-state Li-Ion technologies will be considered.

Evaluation of generic processes for ceramic and composites

The main objective is to evaluate the generic processes developed previously and adapt them for as broad use as possible. The promising electrolyte candidates identified in WP7 will be ranked in terms of processability, costs and upscale production, always considering their physicochemical and electrochemical properties.

Environmental assessment

A prospective life cycle assessment LCA will be conducted by the VUB The full LCA will identify the key performance indicators for the environmental impact including climate change energy efficiency resource depletion toxicity during mining water footprint land usage and external cost calculation Furthermore the environmental impacts will be complemented with social impacts to highlight the excellence on sustainability

Study on the impact of future cell technologies on module and pack concept

The goal is to evaluate the implication of ASSB properties on module and pack concepts One of the most significant property with a very high potential impact is the operating temperature which is usually higher than in the stateoftheart Li ion technologies

Roadmap for competitive production of all-solid batteries including considerations of other emerging technologies

The roadmap will provide an overall vision of potential processes within the different stages of manufacturing and the impact they could provide in terms of cost quality performance safety and lifetime Special emphasis will be given to the applicability of the manufacturing solutions to the several emerging battery technology possibilities and the identification of potential breakthroughs related to production Furthermore the potential benefits and future markets of novel production Technologies will be identified and evaluated

Document with final Cell Requirement and Specification for Automotive and Stationary Application

The top-level Li-ion cell specifications and requirements will be broken down from the requirements for an automotive and a stationary battery-system to provide a real industrial guideline. BMW is responsible for the automotive requirements and VARTA Storage for the stationary requirements.

Project Website

VMB will develop and maintain a project website and corporative image including logo flyer rollups in order to create a project identity increase the awareness of IMAGE and provide the interested public with information concerning the project itself and other relevant topics and events
