Russian canons and translation in the digital era
Enhancing the creative and innovative potential of researchers is important as it creates opportunities for cross-border and cross-sector mobility. The EU-funded GLORIOUS project provides such an opportunity. The project will connect contemporary Russian poets who share their texts online, scholars who study them, and translators who render their work into English and pursue three distinct objectives. Firstly, it will explore and map the online networks that poets use to promote new poetry and provide a conceptual framework for interpreting them. Secondly, a number of innovative new voices will be introduced to the Anglophone reading public and academic communities through translation into English accompanied by scholarly articles. Thirdly, a bespoke website will offer a platform for linking poetry, translation and scholarship, bridging the divide between literary and translation practice and academic study and raising the profile of translation within the academic sphere.
Objective
GLORIOUS is an interdisciplinary study of online networks created by contemporary Russian poets that brings together poets, scholars and translators. The project will offer the first theoretical conceptualisation of such networks, introduce the most exciting new voices to an Anglophone audience through translation and narrow the distance between literary scholarship and translation practice with the help of a bespoke website.
