The first pellet stove with ultra-precise air supply that reduces to near-zero the harmful emissions produced during single room heating

Periodic Reporting for period 1 - cleanFIRE (The first pellet stove with ultra-precise air supply that reduces to near-zero the harmful emissions produced during single room heating)

Berichtszeitraum: 2019-05-01 bis 2019-08-31

An increased penetration of renewable energy sources (RES) in the domestic heating segment is a main target in order to fulfil the EU’s climate and energy goals. Pellet stoves constitute a highly competitive RES alternative to fossil fuel and electric heaters, offering cost efficiency, convenience and an agreeable design. Despite these advantages, most commercially available pellet stoves exceed the limits of the upcoming (2022) EU-Ecodesign directive for CO and dust when working under operational conditions, posing a challenge to their widespread implementation.
RIKA has developed CleanFIRE, a disruptive pellet stove combining the positive features of pellets (cost efficiency, interior design, living climate and comfort) with an innovative close-to-zero emissions and high efficiency approach thanks to our revolutionary CleanFIRE combustion technology.
CleanFIRE has reached TRL 7 through the development and demonstration of a full-scale prototype. The last development steps will be achieved through CleanFIRE project by defining a commercial prototype, validating CleanFIRE technology through the performance of trials and preparing its market deployment through the implementation of pre-commercial and communication actions.
1. We assessed the technical roadmap of CleanFIRE, identifying the required design improvements and modifications and detailing a Work Plan (required work packages, tasks, timing and budget) to bring CleanFIRE to TRL8. Additionally, we identified CleanFIRE project technical risks and proposed mitigation and contingency measures.
2. We validated our production capabilities, distribution strategy and business model; analysed CleanFIRE competition environment, commercial risks and target customers; defined our dissemination and communication strategy; further developed CleanFIRE market analysis; assessed its regulatory requirements and completed an assessment on CleanFIRE IP strategy that confirmed our Freedom-To-Operate in CleanFIRE target markets.
3. We identified our funding needs and forecasted CleanFIRE financial projections up to 2026, resulting in an updated business plan.
CleanFIRE shares the advantages of commercially available pellet stoves while offering close to zero harmful emissions, the highest efficiency in the market and reduced user-efforts for maintenance. CleanFIRE clients will reduce the negative impacts of their pellet stoves on air quality and human health, contributing to support the EU’s climate and energy goals.
