An increased penetration of renewable energy sources (RES) in the domestic heating segment is a main target in order to fulfil the EU’s climate and energy goals. Pellet stoves constitute a highly competitive RES alternative to fossil fuel and electric heaters, offering cost efficiency, convenience and an agreeable design. Despite these advantages, most commercially available pellet stoves exceed the limits of the upcoming (2022) EU-Ecodesign directive for CO and dust when working under operational conditions, posing a challenge to their widespread implementation.
RIKA has developed CleanFIRE, a disruptive pellet stove combining the positive features of pellets (cost efficiency, interior design, living climate and comfort) with an innovative close-to-zero emissions and high efficiency approach thanks to our revolutionary CleanFIRE combustion technology.
CleanFIRE has reached TRL 7 through the development and demonstration of a full-scale prototype. The last development steps will be achieved through CleanFIRE project by defining a commercial prototype, validating CleanFIRE technology through the performance of trials and preparing its market deployment through the implementation of pre-commercial and communication actions.
