AI that composes complex instrumental music for movies, games, advertising and other types of digital media

Periodic Reporting for period 1 - AIVA (AI that composes complex instrumental music for movies, games, advertising and other types of digital media)

Periodo di rendicontazione: 2019-09-01 al 2020-01-31

AIVA is an Artificial Intelligence capable of composing emotional soundtracks for a large range of use cases.
For music creators, the creative process is often challenging because it relies heavily on inspiration, something that can’t always be channelled at will. Moreover, music often is the last component of any film, games, and advertisement productions. As such, music creators are left with very little time to compose the best possible soundtrack for those projects.

For content creators with a low budget, finding high quality, personalised and cheap royalty free music quickly can be a headache. This usually means having to browse through stock music websites with vague descriptions and genres listings to try to find one track that matches their needs. Unfortunately, some tracks are reused multiple times by multiple content creators around the world.

Finally, new forms of interactive entertainment (like video games) are emerging and have hundreds of hours of gameplay, but only two hours of music. This means the same tracks are repeated at least 50 times, reducing immersion for the player.

We have created AIVA to address these problems by offering:

- A composition assistant for music creators, that provides an endless supply of inspiration and musical ideas;

- A composition assistant tool for content creators, that provides them with an intuitive way to compose high quality, unique, personalised, affordable royalty free music in the matter of seconds, and at the touch of a button;

- An API that allows third party developers to create hundreds of hours of soundtrack music for their interactive software and experiences. We think these are impactful problems to solve, as making music easier to create at scale can help empower individuals to become more creative in a wide variety of ways.
Validated both the commercial / market feasibility of AIVA, by testing user’s response and willingness to pay for the public beta of our Music Engine software released in the second half of 2019.

Through many rounds of customer interviews, we have established the next features that need to be developed, in the interest of adding more value to product for our users.

Define a cost per composition to manage our finances while we work towards growth.

Established some new, early partnerships with major third parties. From those, we intend to generate additional revenues as well as increase awareness of AIVA around the world, and generate new leads in markets that we haven’t reached in the past.

Established a tracking system for key metrics, to evaluate the progress of our business overtime.
To progress beyond the state of the art of our current offering, we’ve established through the customer interviews conducted during the feasibility study that we need to carry out the following tasks next:

Understand reasons why certain users don’t engage as much with AIVA, and build features to accommodate their needs.

Scale our growth rate, through various channels:
1) Influencers, with either paid product placements, or by incentivising them to use the product and give them free copies of AIVA (preferred method).
2)Leverage our partnerships with customers like NetEase, and gain access to millions of new users.

Keep on making AIVA as easy to use as possible, without any prior musical knowledge, and keep on improving the underlying technology to create music in a wider variety of style, and at an even higher level of quality

All of these goals will allow us to get closer to our vision of making music easier to create and empowering individuals to become more creative through musical collaboration with AIVA
