INDUEYE V2.0 is being addressed to solve two main problems:
- Environmental problem
The planet has a tremendous problem with its air pollution and climate change. A study published by Jos Lelieveld in the EU Health Journal, March'19, remarks the high exposition risk of EU Citizens to suffer cardiovascular disease due to the poisonous air quality, killing yearly 800.000 EU citizens and reducing 2.2 years of life expectancy.
In the last report presented on the UN urgent conference for climate change on the 25th of September'19, the IPPC set that if the water temperature increases 2ºC, the sea level will rise 42 cm, but if it increases 3ºC, the rise will be 84 cm.
Moreover, the study done by Dirk Norz et.al revealed artic ice has shrunk by half in the last 40 years. A part of this every CO2 ton emitted to the atmosphere equals a 3 m2 of artic ice melted. The average annual emission of a citizen of the 35 rich OCDE nations is 10 tonnes per year, leading to 30 m2 of arctic ice being lost yearly.
- Energy intensive industries challenges.
The big industries are responsible for 21 % of the European Energy lost and, in consequence, for their carbon, greenhouse gases, and waste heat emissionS. The Energy-intensive industries have the challenge to become more efficient in their operations, maintenance, energy consumption and sustainability to be more competitive.
In this sense, the industrial internet of things is the key to achieve these goals. The expected market will exceed 2 trillion € and 27 billion devices installed by 2025. This massive deployment of miniaturized wireless sensor nodes will revolutionize how complex physical systems interact.
Each of these iIoT wireless sensor devices requires power in the range of 1,0-100 mW. Batteries are today the main energy source. But they can provice energy only for a fraction of the operation life of the electronics device itself. These imply regular replacement that has remarkable economic costs, environmental downsides, and serious management and logistic problems.
On the other hand, these Energy Intensive industries have one thing in common: the waste heat. The need to transform the raw material into products losing a significant part of it. This heat generation requires high energy demand and is the major economic and environmental issue worldwide, corresponding only in Europe 21 %.
INDUEYE V2.0 is important for the society for the significant reduction of the environmental impact of the industry and their lessen in their investment and their maintenance costs. The ways of doing this are eliminating the necessity of billions of battery replacements with the consequent reduction of the GHG emission in their electrical battery charging.
There are two reasons to this reduction of the environmental impact:
- The use of the waste heat of industry to work the INDUEYE V.2
- The no utilization of batteries
Batteries imply a serious critical material supply problem, environmental sustainability problems, and international conflict for raw material extraction. These batteries contain heavy metals that are detrimental to the environment. At the end of their lifetime, batteries are hazardous waste due to the toxicity, ignitability, and reactivity. They need to be carefully and expensively disposed of by the manufacturer or the users. However, the expected ubiquitous presence of these nodes will make their disposal and recycling impossible.
