The green revolution for the Industry 4.0.

Periodic Reporting for period 2 - INDUEYE 2.0 (The green revolution for the Industry 4.0.)

Periodo di rendicontazione: 2020-12-01 al 2022-01-31

INDUEYE V2.0 is being addressed to solve two main problems:
- Environmental problem
The planet has a tremendous problem with its air pollution and climate change. A study published by Jos Lelieveld in the EU Health Journal, March'19, remarks the high exposition risk of EU Citizens to suffer cardiovascular disease due to the poisonous air quality, killing yearly 800.000 EU citizens and reducing 2.2 years of life expectancy.
In the last report presented on the UN urgent conference for climate change on the 25th of September'19, the IPPC set that if the water temperature increases 2ºC, the sea level will rise 42 cm, but if it increases 3ºC, the rise will be 84 cm.
Moreover, the study done by Dirk Norz et.al revealed artic ice has shrunk by half in the last 40 years. A part of this every CO2 ton emitted to the atmosphere equals a 3 m2 of artic ice melted. The average annual emission of a citizen of the 35 rich OCDE nations is 10 tonnes per year, leading to 30 m2 of arctic ice being lost yearly.
- Energy intensive industries challenges.
The big industries are responsible for 21 % of the European Energy lost and, in consequence, for their carbon, greenhouse gases, and waste heat emissionS. The Energy-intensive industries have the challenge to become more efficient in their operations, maintenance, energy consumption and sustainability to be more competitive.
In this sense, the industrial internet of things is the key to achieve these goals. The expected market will exceed 2 trillion € and 27 billion devices installed by 2025. This massive deployment of miniaturized wireless sensor nodes will revolutionize how complex physical systems interact.
Each of these iIoT wireless sensor devices requires power in the range of 1,0-100 mW. Batteries are today the main energy source. But they can provice energy only for a fraction of the operation life of the electronics device itself. These imply regular replacement that has remarkable economic costs, environmental downsides, and serious management and logistic problems.
On the other hand, these Energy Intensive industries have one thing in common: the waste heat. The need to transform the raw material into products losing a significant part of it. This heat generation requires high energy demand and is the major economic and environmental issue worldwide, corresponding only in Europe 21 %.

INDUEYE V2.0 is important for the society for the significant reduction of the environmental impact of the industry and their lessen in their investment and their maintenance costs. The ways of doing this are eliminating the necessity of billions of battery replacements with the consequent reduction of the GHG emission in their electrical battery charging.
There are two reasons to this reduction of the environmental impact:
- The use of the waste heat of industry to work the INDUEYE V.2
- The no utilization of batteries
Batteries imply a serious critical material supply problem, environmental sustainability problems, and international conflict for raw material extraction. These batteries contain heavy metals that are detrimental to the environment. At the end of their lifetime, batteries are hazardous waste due to the toxicity, ignitability, and reactivity. They need to be carefully and expensively disposed of by the manufacturer or the users. However, the expected ubiquitous presence of these nodes will make their disposal and recycling impossible.

Technical achievements
INDUEYE V2.0 will be the all-in-one integration of the thermoelectric generator and the IoT unit with and external sensor.
It is the first sensing solution without maintenance, with edge computation using long-range wireless communication and compliant to be installed in ATEX explosive environments.
Defined the manufacturing and industrialization processes for INDUEYE V2.0
Developed a Certification Plan, a Quality Plan, ISO 27.000 and impact study.
Contacted potential key partners such as potential suppliers, industrial partners, and distributors.

Commercial achievements
Identified potential customer’s requirements and needs.
Improved the market study. Identifies and analyzed the major competitors.
Work performed from the beginning of the project to the end of the project covered by the report by the engineering department were:
• A study of TEG cells in the market to choose the best to fit the equipment and the specifications.
• Redefinition of the TEG cells on the device to obtain a small and cheap device.
• Mechanical design, which is suitable to fit the heatsink, heat collector, and the electronics housing.
• Evaluation of the potential improvement on the electronics to MAKE progress the CPU and communications electronic design.
• Adaptation of the electronics design to eliminate the need for a metallic enclosure and the external antennas.
• Optimization of the size of catchers and the heat sink to get the maximum performance.
• The design of the bottom with a thread. It allows the end-user to either screw it directly to the hot surface or screws an adaptor.
• An investigation of several materials to maximize the thermal stability and security of electronics.
• Reduction of materials and proximity provider instead of providers.
• Placing all electronic parts in one. It is aligned with the optimization of resources procedures involved in the project.
• An improvement of the performance in EMC emissions
• Redesigned the ration interface.

And the work performed by the other department were:
• Negotiations for the installation of the pilot in an oil refinery.
• Development of a Marketing Plan that will integrate into the company’s business plan.
• Study of the IoT sensor market, legal, and political framework, and the potential market of INDUEY V2.0 its competitors, the possible suppliers, the distribution, and the clients.
• Beginning of the development of a study of an impact to know the potential impacts using the INDUEYE V2.0 in industrial applications and the regulatory issues in each market.
• Weekly meeting to follow up on the development of engineering, finance & sales part.
• Follow up of the deliverables, level, IPR management, final documents, project expenses, analyzing potential and real conflicts.
• Deliverable of the periodic activity, evaluation report from all departments.

The main results achieved
• Marketing plan
• TGM 287-1.0-2.5 is TEG selected.
• Elimination of the metallic enclosure and external antennas.
• The suitable heatsink was chosen.
• The design can fit the heatsink, heat collector and the electronic housing in tower like the image added.
• The size of the catchers, heat sink optimized to get the maximum performance.
• The bottom of the device has been designed with a thread that allows the end user to either screw it directly to the hot surface or screw an adaptor.
• All the electronic part in one to optimize the resources procedures.
• Elimination of the metallic box to improve of the performance in EMC emissions.
• Meetings minutes.
• Periodic activity and deliverables reports.
Thanks to the INDUEYE 2.0 project, it was possible to consolidate the team of AEInnova. In 2021, it is expecte 24 direct and 6 indirect and achieve a sales margin of the INDUEYE 2.0 of 51% in 2025.
The design of the INDUEYE is doing with all the modifications to get it more eco-friendly.
The communication tasks have help to attract different companis of our product, in 2025 will 33 big customers.
