Support for international researchers
When it comes to the career development of researchers, there is a gender gap in the system. There are relatively fewer qualifying women than there are men. 'Vinnmer-people' (VINNMER-PEOPLE) is an EU-funded project that aimed to promote better gender distribution in terms of qualification and career development of researchers. The areas of activity included collaboration between academia, industry and the public sector. Emphasis was placed on the commitment of the host location for recruiting researchers and supporting them. Furthermore, the focus was on incoming as well as outgoing experienced international researchers. Four calls were published and 39 fellows were funded. Results were positive, indicating increased funding and international networking, commitment from employers and training. Career advancement was realised in recruitments to industry and government agencies and through positions as professors and vice chancellors. Open calls were conducted in 2013 and2014 in order to increase the involvement of industrial researchers. These efforts will be useful for research-qualified future leaders.
