European researchers created an intelligent, location-based decision support system that allows transport operators to contact passengers via their mobile phones. Although intended for all modes of transport the system is first being targeted at airports as they present the most challenging environment. The Adamant project defined the decision support system as collecting, sorting and communicating information to help travel easier. The intelligent network can ensure that passengers' journeys run as smoothly as possible by alerting passengers to check-in queues and flight delays and contacting late arrivals, thereby avoiding flight delays. The new system met quality of service (QoS) agreements and was designed to operate under civilian emergency and crises situations. Project partners developed a location-sensitive service level agreement (SLA) management framework. The framework dealt with factors such as the customers' location and the current condition of the network and application infrastructure within the airport environment. The decision support system developed by Adamant project can help avoid costly delays to flights and provide travellers with a trouble free travel experience. Both factors will give airports a competitive edge by providing the best possible service for their customers.
