Religious Translation, the Catholic Church and Global Media: a study of the products and processes of multilingual dissemination.

Project description

Tracing the evolution of religious translation in multilingual globalised communication

The EU-funded PIETRA project is carrying out the first-of-its-kind comprehensive examination of translation practices in the institution of the Catholic Church as well as the multilingual communication of religious messages using different forms of mass media. To that end, it will analyse the translation processes and products of the Catholic Church across three different media (print, web and social media) and in two different time periods to advance our understanding of how multilingual dissemination intersects with technological change and institutional ideology. PIETRA will develop an innovative methodological design which offers a novel approach to studying religious translation.
