D2.3 Bioacoustics and ship acoustics terminology standard (JASCO) [M45]. Output from task T2.1. D2.3 is an acoustical dictionary. Its purpose is to facilitate effective intra- and inter-project communication by providing a list of relevant terms used in bioacoustics and ship acoustics, and their definitions, in a clear and concise way. Success will be indicated by use of draft versions during the SATURN project by other WPs, and of the final version by other projects.

The findings of Subtask 2.2.4. Assessing the feasibility of a cost-effective solution for vessel URN measurement based on onboard measurements and Subtask 2.2.5. Quantifying and assessing uncertainty related to URN measurements will be reported in D2.5.

D3.6: Report with DEPONS simulation results regarding porpoise population responses to variations in ship noise: Kattegat case study (AU, subtask 3.5.3)[M32]. Report describing results of simulations using the DEPONS model on the response of Kattegat porpoise populations to different shipping scenarios involving ships with different sound emission characteristics and different modes of operation (re-routing, speed limits and convoying). The findings will be combined in the general report with the outputs from MSP (T6.4-6.5), disseminated and promoted through SATURN outreach programme and Stakeholder Group and available on SATURN website

D3.5: Report on the relationship between health status and animal behavioural changes in tagged harbour seals (TIHO, subtask 3.4.3)[M30]. This report will ccharacterise the relationship between the health status of individual tagged seals, from sea, riverine and estuarine habitats, and their behavioural response to exposure to ship noise. A key aspect will be the use of novel combination of biomarkers to identify stress. If successful and sufficiently valid the findings will be incorporated into one or more peer reviewed publications. They will in any event be Disseminated and promoted through SATURN outreach programme and Stakeholder Group, and made publicly available on SATURN website, and through the VRE (T6.3).

D4.1: Report on fundamental physical mechanisms of propeller source level (CNR) [M24]. (Task 4.1). The intention of this work is to shed new light on the physical mechanisms associated with vortex dynamics that cause propellers to make noise. Success will be defined in terms of the quantum of improvement in process understanding and the level of improvement in model fidelity achieved.

D3.2: Report on health status for harbour seals and porpoises, including the findings of the ear analysis (TIHO, subtasks 3.4.1 and 3.4.2) [M24]. This deliverable will provide essential updated information on population demographic rates and health status as input for population modelling, and an assessment of possible cases of hearing loss due to exposure to ship noise in seals and porpoises including frequency ranges. Disseminated and promoted through SATURN outreach programme and Stakeholder Group. New findings will be publicly available on SATURN website, through the VRE (T6.3) and are expected to yield the basis of at least one peer-reviewed publication.

To be delivered in close collaboration with WP6 proving project information, outputs and results to policy and decision makers in an accessible and audience appropriate way. D2.1 Final report on URN measurements (TSI) [M32]. Output from Task T2.2. The URN measurement procedures and results for both deep and shallow waters of the research vessel will be gathered and analysed according to several standards, depths and operational conditions. The main aims of D2.1 are to verify the conduct of the measurements and to compare the different results to obtain conclusions to feed sub-tasks 2.1.3, 2.2.4 and 2.2.5. Success will be indicated by use of these results by ISO TC 32/SC 3/WG 1 (“ISO WG1”).

D4.2: Report on impact of open propeller retrofit by pump jet on source level and propulsive efficiency (CNR) [M36]. T4.3. This report will present the results of comparative evaluation of the impact on sound production and propulsive efficiency when a pump jet system replaces a conventional propeller. Evaluation will also include consideration of effects at a range of speeds including slow steaming speed.

D3.3: Open source standardized processing software toolbox defining analysis methods applied to dosimeter and animal behaviour data including extraction and categorizationcategorisation of vessel passes (AU, joint output from subtasks 3.3.2 and 3.3.3)[M28]. The tools will provide a standardized end-to-end data analysis work flow applicable to any animal-borne dosimeter or behavioural response data. The standardized processing software toolbox will be available through the VRE (T6.3), and the software will be licensed under the GNU Public License making it freely available for commercial use.
