Project description
Innovative holistic food safety early warning and risk assessment system
Overpopulation and climate change have put global food systems under threat, creating new risks in food safety. In this context, the EU-funded HOLiFOOD project will design and test a new and improved integrated food safety risk analysis framework, contributing also to advancing sectorial regulation. Considering the whole environment in which food is produced, HOLiFOOD focuses on three supply chains (maize, lentils and chicken). A systems approach using artificial intelligence and Big Data technologies will be used to develop an early warning and emerging risks prediction system for food safety hazards. HOLiFOOD’s new technologies will be adopted by stakeholders, including national food safety authorities, and facilitated by the co-design efforts of risk assessors, food producers and consumers, and extensive training/education activities.
