Polnische Partnerschaften für die Krebsimpfstoff-Forschung
Die Entwicklung von Impfstoffen, die das körpereigene Immunsystem zur Bekämpfung von Krebszellen anregen können, ist ein wachsender Forschungsbereich. Bevor Impfstoffe für die breite Anwendung zugelassen werden, muss noch weiter geforscht werden. Das EU-finanzierte Projekt CANVAS soll die Krebsimpfstoff-Forschung am Internationalen Zentrum für Krebsimpfstoff-Forschung der Universität Danzig in Polen voranbringen. Das Projekt umfasst Partnerschaften mit der Universität Tor Vergata in Rom (Italien) und dem Kommissariat für Atomenergie und alternative Energien in Frankreich sowie mit dem Biotech-Start-up-Unternehmen „Real Research“ in Polen. CANVAS wird eine gemeinsame Pilotstudie durchführen, welche die Grundlage für eine neuartige, auf die Erkrankten zugeschnittene Therapie für nicht-kleinzelligen Lungenkrebs schaffen soll.
Ziel
The main objective of the project Enhancing Cancer Vaccine Science for New Therapy Pathways (CANVAS) is to significantly raise the scientific profile, networking, and research management competencies at the International Centre for Cancer Vaccine Science (ICCVS) at the University of Gdańsk (UG), Poland, to achieve improved research excellence in cancer vaccine science. The project aims to contribute to reduction of the disparities in R&I in Europe by networking activities with outstanding leading European research partners: University of Rome Tor Vergata (UNITOV), Italy, and Alternative Energies and Atomic Energy Commission (CEA), France. The partnership includes also a biotech start-up Real Research (Poland), to foster intersectoral knowledge transfer for innovative translational research approaches. A strong focus on upgrade of grant writing and research management skills will improve long-term competitiveness in obtaining funding. In addition a joint pilot study is planned in the project. We expect that it will provide the foundation for a novel patient tailored therapy of non-small cell lung cancer. Thus, apart from the scientific impact, in the long term innovations generated with the support of the CANVAS partnership have a translational potential to contribute to improving therapy for cancer patients, which give the project a pivotal economic and societal impact.
