Report on trust in media and democratic institutions in Europe (öffnet in neuem Fenster)

Data related to people’s trust in media and institutions will be presented in D5.2. As much as possible, we will try to provide a breakdown by socio-demographic variables as far as these data are available to the scientific community. The research results are also fed into the media map.

Comparative assessment of legal and (self-)regulatory frameworks for media in Europe (öffnet in neuem Fenster)

On the example of the ten partner countries, a comparative analysis of strengths and weaknesses of legal and (self-) regulatory frameworks against democratic requirements will provide insights into good practices and shortcomings. The research results are also fed into the media map.

Theory-driven re-analysis of the project’s interventions (öffnet in neuem Fenster)

The theory work package should continue to provide support during the entire action, through the organisation of internal workshops and reflection moments. This part of the work of WP2 will be intensified when WP6 becomes activated, as the use of Participatory Action Research requires intense moments of reflection. D2.4 will thus consist out of two parts, reporting on the (1) internal workshops and reflection moments, and on (2) the reflection components of the of Participatory Action Research cycle.

Media production in ten European countries - Country reports (öffnet in neuem Fenster)

Country reports from all partners, combining national results of Task 4.1 and Task 4.2.

Comparative assessment of political participation through and in the media in EU countries (öffnet in neuem Fenster)

On the example of the ten partner countries, the second research article will summarise main conceptual and empirical issues on political participation through and in the media. The results are also fed into the media map.

Report “Future roadmap for European media and democracy” (öffnet in neuem Fenster)

The results of the citizens’ parliaments and their theory-driven evaluation will be made publicly available and distributed to relevant stakeholders. Results will also be included in the map of European political information environments.

Periodic report I (öffnet in neuem Fenster)

In accordance with Grant Agreement, Article 21

Policy papers for different stakeholders (öffnet in neuem Fenster)

Policy papers will address (1.) good practices in guaranteeing media freedom and plurality, transparency and political independence of media production, ethical standards, editorial processes, internal accountability and governance structures, (2.) political and self-regulatory measures to promote social diversity in management and newsrooms and to strengthen specific forms of democratic journalism (such as fact-checking, investigative and participatory journalism), (3.) policy recommendations for PSM, commercial and non-profit media according to four areas of recommendations: transparency, legal incentives, editorial incentives and structural incentives, (4.) recommendations for media industry and media houses how to establish audience research approaches that take into account the changing information and communication behaviour of media users and, above all, their different participation needs.

The report aims to provide derivations for the application in the field of the research project.

Comparative assessment of media supply and production in ten EU countries (öffnet in neuem Fenster)

On the example of the ten partner countries, the first research article will summarise main conceptual and empirical issues on media supply and production. The research results are also fed into the media map.

Political participation through and in the media in ten European countries - Country reports (öffnet in neuem Fenster)

Country reports from all partners, combining national results of Task 4.2 and Task 4.3.

Leaflets and online guidance on participatory media practi (öffnet in neuem Fenster)

Based on the results, leaflets and online guidance will be developed, focusing on how media and information literacy can be improved and media content creation can be put in the hands of communities and citizens with professional journalism acting in different roles. Participatory practices at selected media outlets will be discussed that can serve as blueprints for the future of accessible media production and programming.

Report on media and democracy in the European Union (öffnet in neuem Fenster)

The report will present all results of the research for WP4, confronted with the results of the demand-related WP5. It is the basis for a book manuscript.

Legal and (self-)regulatory frameworks in ten European countries - Country reports (öffnet in neuem Fenster)

Country reports from all partners, combining national results of Task 3.1 and Task 3.2.

Comparative report on audience needs in ten EU countries (öffnet in neuem Fenster)

The results of the ethnographic sessions will be presented in D5.5, by highlighting people’s needs, desires and expectations for what concerns the media and democracy connection. The research results are also fed into the media map.

Results of the theory-driven re-analysis of existing empirical data (öffnet in neuem Fenster)

D2.3 deepens the work done in D2.1 and D2.2 by confronting it with more analytical data, allowing for further enrichment of the theoretical framework and of the work of the other work packages, allowing (if need be) for improvements of their empirical set-ups. This deliverable acts as a safety-net, finding a compromise between speed (the need to have D2.2 ready as early as possible) and thoroughness (further improving the quality of D2.1 and D2.2 in D2.3).

Audiences’ media practices in ten European countries - Country reports (öffnet in neuem Fenster)

Country reports from all partners on national results of Task 5.3.

People, media and democracy: a quali-quantitative assessment (öffnet in neuem Fenster)

An internal part of the website will be established for supporting communication and collaboration between the project partners.

Blog on citizens’ parliaments (öffnet in neuem Fenster)

The process of implementing citizens’ parliaments will be accompanied by blog posts and online debates on the EPALE platform to enable further participation from the educational sector.

Completion of the front end (öffnet in neuem Fenster)

At that time, the map of European political information environments will be made publicly available.

Coordination plan (öffnet in neuem Fenster)

With this plan work within all work packages is coordinated and consolidated throughout the project duration. It ensures that all necessary steps will be planned and synchronized to achieve the goals of the project within the different phases. Continuous work planning will be a major tool to ensure project contingency.

Project meetings and impact workshops (öffnet in neuem Fenster)

The exact dates of the meetings and workshops will be determined in coordination with the project partners and the invited guests.

Methodological protocol for ethnographic research (öffnet in neuem Fenster)

D5.3 will include methodological framework, research questions and the specific techniques to be adopted for the qualitative, ethnographic inquiry to be realized in the ten countries.

Dissemination and exploitation plan (öffnet in neuem Fenster)

Detailed guidelines and planning of dissemination, communication and exploitation activities throughout the entire project.

Design of citizens’ parliaments (öffnet in neuem Fenster)

The design will be based on results of Task 6.1 and reflection on components of the PAR cycle (Participation Action Research cycle).

Theoretical framework on democracy, participation and representation (öffnet in neuem Fenster)

D2.1 will contain a theoretical reflection on the different meanings of these concepts (and related concepts, as, e.g., trust), their different normative interpretations and their different translations in democratic practice. In the second part of D2.1, the related functions of media and journalism will be (theoretically) analysed.

Analytical models for examining media supply and demand side (öffnet in neuem Fenster)

D2.2 will be translate the theoretical models, developed in D2.1, into analytical models that can be used for the empirical analysis organised in the other work packages. This will prevent a disconnection between theory and research, and will ensure that the empirical research is grounded in the academic literature.

Data management plan (öffnet in neuem Fenster)

The DMP will evolve during the lifetime of the project in order to present the status of the project's reflections on data management.
