Automatique & Industrie (A&I.) presents a comprehensive service and tool named CACTUS Energy Suite (CACTUSes) designed for improving energy efficiency in the industry, large buildings and infrastructures, responding to the requirements of ISO 50001 and offering an intelligent and complete engineering approach to meet large industries and facilities' needs and obligations.
CACTUSes is an outstanding all-in-one, open source-technology-based software package incorporating artificial intelligence and machine-learning, making energy management easy and cost-effective together with perfect implementation on clients' premises by A.I. specialists. It can be implemented as SaaS or locally (for data safety reasons). The features extend from data collection and treatment as a support for ISO 50001 Energy Management System process, via data reconstruction, to facilitating Energy Performance Indicators-based energy reviews, virtual meters (dividing sub-metering costs by 4) and generally significant energy savings. A.I.'s implementation based on energy engineering expertise and assistance completes the software. The software package also includes Renewable Energy sources management for self-consumtion. The return on investment due to energy savings of 10-20% brought by CACTUSes, is less than 2 years.
CACTUSes has been developed since 2011 and has now reached TRL6. It has to be refined and developed further before being brought massively to the market.
The market study shows that the market will increase and is expected to exceed EUR 300 M in 2030. A&I targets 17% of market share in the EU, starting with countries that have to reduce energy consumptions by law, beginning with the frontrunners of the ISO 50001 implementation, i.e. France, Germany, Austria, UK, Ireland, Italy, Spain…

The work performed from the beginning of the project includes the CACTUSes Solution assessment :
• A peer review (assessment from clients and partner companies) used to improve the software, leading to set the scope of the necessary development of our concept (software plus implementation)
• Identification of perfectible or missing functions
• A comprehensive market study (segments, stakeholders, possible distribution channels, etc.) including the type and size of market that we can envisage
• A business model for up-scaling CACTUSes & services sales in Europe and worldwide
• The ideas for a successful commercialisation (choice of target countries and designing the commercialisation scheme : own clients, distributors, ESCOs)
• A business and scale-up plan
As a consequence of the above, Automatique & Industrie decides to apply for funding under EIC Pilot (SME Instrument).
The feasibility study helped conceptualise the application for the EIC Pilot and will be adapted to the updated requirements (e.g. blended finance, 5 WPs only, …)

The project must allow a strong development of the CACTUSes software. The impact for A&I is the creation of jobs with 57 additional employees by 2025 for a turnover of more than €12 million.
The project's impact is also environmental. Also by 2025, A&I will have 1,870 industrial sites supervised by CACTUSes, which will result in energy savings of around 300 GWh per year, or a reduction in emissions of 91,580 tonnes of CO2 per year.
